KATHMANDU, Dec 19: The government on Tuesday has clarified that it is eager to transfer the power to the left alliance but is seeking constitutional and legal ways to hand over the government rather than intend to protract its stay.

Responding to the left alliance’s accusation that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his party Nepali Congress are attempting to prolong their stay in power by denying to step down, the government’s Spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication Mohan Bahadur Basnet, organizing a press meet in Kathmandu, said that the government is waiting for the President’s approval on the ordinance on the National Assembly Election.

“We don’t want to linger our stay in the government. We are eager to hand over the power to the left alliance,” said Basnet.

“It is really sad to hear some doubtful expressions from left alliance leaders but there are constitutional complexities.”

“Prime Minister Deuba will quit the government once President approves the ordinance on the National Assembly Election that was sent to her around two months ago,” he added.

The left alliance, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have termed the inclusion of single transferable votes for the formation of National Assembly as unconstitutional and has taken its stance on multiple transferable votes. The ordinance is currently stuck at the Office of President.
