Kathmandu: CPN-Maoist chairman Mohan Baidya has warned that they will not remain mute spectators if the Nepal Army (NA) is mobilised to suppress their poll boycott programmes. Talking today with Rishi Dhamala for The RD Show, a talk show of Himalayan Television, Baidya said, “we will retaliate if our poll boycott programmes are suppressed using the Nepal Army.”
Unlike speculated by others, Baidya clarified that they will not raise arms. He said that they will actively boycott the polls mobilising the people, adding that they do not have any immediate plans to go underground. Commenting on the rising cases of violence in the run-up to the CA polls, Baidya dismissed the accusation that his party was behind those incidents. He said that his party does not believe on the violent activities like abduction of the candidates, arson and bombings.
Reiterating the demand of poll postponement, he claimed that country could not move ahead without consensus. During the interview, Baidya also expressed commitment to go for the polls if new date of polls is announced through consensus by postponing the scheduled polls for November 19. He said his party will not withdraw the 10-day nationwide bandha called by poll-opposing 33-party alliance unless their demand is met. “Bandha will be withdrawn if the polls are cancelled. Otherwise we will continue with our bandha programmes as announced,” he said.
Arguing that he had struggled for more than 50 years for the CA, he claimed that he was not against the constitution through the CA. “CA through this election cannot deliver the people’s constitution so there is not point of taking part in this process,” Baidya said.
Baidya revealed that they are holding informal talks with the government and other political parties. “Though informal talks are underway, we are not going to take part in this election at any cost,” he said.
Commenting on the UCPN (Maoist) proposal to offer them 26 seats of the CA through the cabinet appointment, Baidya said they will not be a part of the upcoming CA despite as many as seats they are provided.

Kathmandu: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has reportedly said that he will hold talks with the poll opposing CPN-Maoist to withdraw its 10-day long bandha programme called from November 11 in a bid to foil the Constituent Assembly polls slated for November 19.
Meeting with a group of delegates including Nepal Citizen Forum chairman Himalaya Shamsher Rana, senior vice-chairman Umesh Mainali and Madhesi Citizen Society coordinator Ganesh Mandal this afternoon, President Dr Yadav said that he has planned to hold talks with CPN-Maoist chairman Mohan Baidya against the backdrop of rising anti-poll activities, terror created among the people due to the growing number of violence cases in the run up to the polls and bandha called by the 33-party alliance led by the CPN-Maoist.
“I will talk with Baidya soon to make the election success and I will also request him to withdraw the bandha programmes,” Rana told to nepalireporters.com quoting the President Dr Yadav as saying. According to Rana, President Dr Yadav told them that he was talking with Baidya internally to make him withdraw the bandha and also he is planning to hold a meeting with top leaders of the parties including Baidya prior to the polls date.
“CA polls should not be postponed as the preparation has almost completed. Deferring the poll date would amount to a suicidal move,” Rana said President Dr Yadav as quoting.
Meanwhile, former Chief Election Commissioner Surya Prashad Shrestha has met Baidya to urge the latter to call off bandha.

Kathmandu: CPN-Maoist has demanded the immediate postponement of the Constituent Assembly polls going to be held by putting them outside the process. The CPN-Maoist, which has vowed to disrupt the polls, has also urged government and four major political parties to seriously consider its demands and start a dialogue with them.
Issuing a press release today, CPN-Maoist chairperson Mohan Baidya has reiterated its demand of Round-Table-Conference (RTC) to give an outlet to the political impasse. “We make special request to the four major political parties and the government to postpone the election going to be held without national consensus and initiate result-oriented dialogues and the RTC as proposed by the alliance,” read the press release.
Likewise, Baidya has also made an appeal to other political parties, civil society and intellectuals to take an initiation on this regard.
Baidya-led CPN-Maoist has also condemned the crackdown, arrest and prosecution of its leaders and cadres across the nation while boycotting the election- ‘a practice of democratic rights.’ It has also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of its leaders and cadres, arrested while boycotting the CA polls.
Stating that the CA election, a major component of the peace process, Baidya has also claimed that there was no meaning and rationale of the CA polls without the participation of the CPN-Maoist, a major force involved in the ‘people’s war. He has also warned that the CA constituted without their participation could not produce a constitution but only invite further conflict.

KATHMANDU: Chairman of hardline CPN-Maoist Mohan Baidhya has challenged the major four political parties and government to conduct the election on November 19 as announced earlier.

Releasing a book penned by party leader Hira Mani Dukhi in the capital today, Baidhya said, “The agitating parties would promulgate new constitution through streets if the major parties and government did not listen to our concerns.”

He also said that CA election was not possible by keeping the agitating political parties aside and claimed that the UCPN (Maoist) and other major parties are practising the politics of prohibition.

At a program in the capital on Sunday, Baidhya had said that the party sacrificed a lot for CA election, thereby they were not opposing the election but the process that the four-party and government are practising.

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya has ruled out the chance of participation in the upcoming CA election until the 11-point agreement and 25-point order were scrapped.

“We have sacrificed blood for CA election but we are not going to participate in the poll under the status quo,” he said at a program in the capital on Sunday.

Baidhya was speaking at an interaction organized by the 33 agitating political parties.

“New government from among the parties should be formed by scrapping the March 15 agreement and CA election should be conducted by forging consensus in contents of the new constitution,” he said.

He said conflict resolution is not likely by sidelining a faction of participants of decade-long people’s war.

Likewise, CPN (UML) General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel said that CA election under current situation is not possible if the demands of the agitating parties were not addressed.

All parties should be flexible to bring the agitating parties in election as CA election was something different from the general election.

Also speaking at the program, Nepali Congress leader Dip Kumar Upadhyay said there was no alternative before the agitating parties other than to take part in the elections.

Similarly, Vice-chairman of Federal Socialist Party Bijay Subba and General Secretary of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Nepal, Ram Sahay Yadav said an all-party conference should be conducted by scrapping the March 15 agreement for holding new election.

Likewise, political scientists Prof Krishna Khanal and Prof Dr Surendra KC said the new CA would be able to draft the new constitution if the earlier mistakes were corrected by reviewing the causes of failure of the erstwhile CA.
