KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has proposed electoral cooperation with the CPN Maoist supremo Mohan Baidya “Kiran”.

Koirala rolled out such a proposal to Baidya during a meeting between the duo on Wednesday evening at a time when the latter’s party has remained adamant on its stance of not participating in the proposed CA election slated for November 19, this year.

He said that his party was ready to cooperate and coordinate with the CPN Maoist in some electoral seats, if Baidya’s party participated in the CA election by embracing democratic norms and principles.

While ruling out any alternative to holding CA elections to end the ongoing status quo, Koirala sadi that his party was ready to discuss the demands of Baidya’s party except postponing the CA elections and dissolving the incumbent government.

While promising that the issue will be discussed in the High Level Policital Mechanism meeting slated for Thursday, Koirala urged Baidya to come up with concrete proposal and meaningful discussion.

Is really CA election possible on November 19? https://nepalireporter.com/2013/06/13036 https://nepalireporter.com/2013/06/13036#respond Fri, 14 Jun 2013 05:26:46 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=13036 Nepal technocrat government interim electoralKATHMANDU: The government on Thursday announced the November 19 as the date for holding election to the second constituent assembly (CA). KATHMANDU: The government on Thursday announced the November 19 as the date for holding election to the second constituent assembly (CA).

The government also formed a five-member constituency delimitation commission led by former justice at the Supreme Court Tahir Ali Ansari giving a-month term to the panel that consists of geographer, sociologist and expert on administrative field.

Major four political parties have lauded the latest government decision as for them the CA election was the only option to end the current deadlock. But, opposition parties including CPN-Maoist, Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi Janadhikar Forum and some other political parties are hellbent to foil the election claiming that this election would not solve the country’s deadlock.

However, the announcement comes as a surprise to them who never believed that the Khil Raj Regmi-led government is not going to hold the CA election.

But, many believe that this CA election is not going to happen as success of the CA would not lie on sidelining a major force in Tarai i.e Upendra Yadav, a major force of people’s war the CPN-Maoist and indigenous and ethnic communities.

Meantime, the another opinion is also equally strong. People of this camp say that a democracy cannot be strong until election was conducted and some minor grievances should be taken not so seriously in the process.

The leaders of major four political and government minister are often saying that agitating parties including Mohan Baidhya has no other option to join the election mission. If they are ready to join the election campaign seriously, some of their demands could be addressed.

Even on Thursday evening, Minister for Information Madhav Poudel said that the government has not even  thought the the Baidhya-led Maoist would boycott the CA election, a sovereign body to empower the people.

But, one thing is for sure that the CPN-Maoist would face serious clash in the party regarding the party’s participation in the election. Some leaders including Ram Bahadur Thapa, Dev Gurung, Pampha Bhusal, Hit Man Shakya and others are in favor of using the election while others are flatly opposing the idea saying that the parliamentary system has totally failed.

The state of confusion in the CPN-Maoist would be matter of great relief of sigh and political advantage to the UCPN-Maoist that is strongly advocating the election for long.

KATHMANDU: CPN Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya “Kiran” has warned to launch stern agitation against Nepali Congress, CPN UML, and UCPN Maoist leaders if they tried to hold Constituent Assembly elections under status quo.

Baidya warned that the major political party leaders did not have the credentials to push with the CA elections by keeping his party out of it.

While describing his party, as a progressive and powerful that rose to power through the people’s war, Baidya said his party will assault these leaders if they went to CA elections by bypassing his party.

Accusing that UCPN Maoist Puspa Kamal Dahal deceived the nation by forming the incumbent electoral government, he claimed that Prachanda had pushed the nation on a fascist path by submitting to the dictates of India and America.

KATHMANDU: CPN Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya aka “Kiran” has claimed that the ongoing protests led by Nepali Congress and CPN UML cannot toppled the government.

While stating that the objective of the opposition led agitation to be in national interests, Baidya said that their efforts were not sufficient to achieve their aim.

Speaking at a party program in Butwal on Sunday, Baidya said that though NC and UML were preparing to topple the government, they still lacked a strategy for dealing with the post Bhattarai government dissolution period.

Adding to that, Baidya said, they still rely on the President for dealing with an unexpected turn of event and in such a condition they cannot succeed in their mission.

He advised the opposition parities to draft clear working strategy for succeeding in their mission. Responding to Prachanda’s recent proposal of CJ-led consensus government, Baidya said that his party won’t accept the proposal at any cost.

Baidya reiterated that the only option to resolve all political crisis will be to organise round table conference comprising all parties contributing in the great Janandolan.

Stating that India has reaping all the benefits of Nepal’s all revolution, Baidya said that the nation’s souther neighbour will again benefit from the opposition’s ongoing protest programs.
