KATHMANDU, Aug 20: Secretary at National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Arjun Kumar Karki, has said this fiscal year is being marked as the reconstruction year and all the houses destroyed by the earthquake would be completed by the end of fiscal year 2076/77BS.

It is therefore the construction of the damaged houses would be completed in the five years of the earthquake, he reiterated during a program organized by Transparency International Nepal on reconstruction and rehabilitation after the quake.

He said those building new houses need to meet the building code.
On the occasion, leader of the Rastriya Janata Party, Mahendra Raya Yadav, complained that the foreign assistance had not reached the earthquake survivors; NRA’s activities were very slow and people were suffering from landslides and floods.

Lawmaker Asha Kumari BK said the quake survivors have been afflicted much, so the government must pay heed to them.

Transparency International General Secretary Padmini Pradhanaga also complained that the reconstructions of quake-damaged public buildings including school were lackadaisical.

Transparency International Chairperson Shreehari Aryal informed that integrity program was launched for the reconstruction and rehabilitation following the earthquake. The integrity program was helping the government in the reconstruction planning, implementation and monitoring.

It was informed at the program that only 27 percent of households have reconstructed their houses so far.RSS

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: National Reconstruction Authority has developed a system where engineers deputed in reconstruction site can fill up progress details through a mobile app.

The NRA developed the Project Monitoring Information System (PMIS) with the financial aid of Asian Development Bank and launched it today. The engineers deployed in reconstruction task of wards of 32 earthquake affected districts can keep the record in this system.

User name and passport would be provided to the engineers for the same.

Launching the system, NRA Chief Executive Officer, Yubraj Bhusal, said that the system would help to know the progress made in reconstruction sector.

Bhusal said, “This system will help to make reconstruction transparent and accountable. The central office will receive the information uploaded by the engineers from working site and the central office will get all information regarding situation of reconstruction. It is believed that the system will help to carry out reconstruction soon.”

Details of reconstruction of all infrastructures like private housing, government buildings, archaeological sites, schools and health institutions would be included in the system.

Similarly, ADB Country Director for Nepal, Mukhtor Khamudkhanov, said that the method is very useful for the monitoring of reconstruction task.

Likewise, Assistant Spokesperson of NRA, Dr Bhishma Kumar Bhusal, said, “The system would be developed as an open system. One can know progress and expenditure details of reconstruction living in any corner of the world once it is developed as an open system.” RSS

KATHMANDU, May 22: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), the government body formed after the Gorkha earthquake to carry out post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation works, has started the process of developing an integrated settlement to shift vulnerable settlement of the five most-affected districts.

The 64th meeting of NRA’s executive committee held under the coordination of its Chief Executive Officer Prof Dr Govinda Raj Pokhrel decided to go with developing an integrated settlement in each five districts, worst affected by the disaster that had struck the country on April 25, 2015.

The meeting agreed to conduct the feasibility study, prepare a detailed project report and launch an infrastructure construction drive in this regard in collaboration with other organisations/agencies, according to NRA Spokesperson Yamlal Bhusal.

Earlier, a team comprising NRA representatives and geologists identified 112 settlement including Keraunja of Gorkha, Selang of Sindhupalchowk, Khalde of Rasuwa, Urleni of Nuwakot and Besimpa of Dolakha as the vulnerable zones after the quake. Under the first-phase, the NRA is implementing its plan as a pilot project in the above mentioned areas.

A safe location will be selected by a committee headed by the Chief District Officer of the respective district to shift the vulnerable settlement.

The issues relating to road, drinking water and electricity facilities, development of structure to control water-induced disasters and land acquisition will be addressed from the government-level to build an integrated settlement in cooperation with other organisations/ agencies. RSS
