BIRGUNJ: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the NC would not forge alliance for polls with any other political parties.

However, NC leaders including President Sushil Koirala and Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel have been advocating polls alliance with the UML to garner more seats in the upcoming CA polls.

“Minor understanding in polls cannot be ruled out but polls alliance is not possible,” he said at a press meet here today.

Deuba further said that the erstwhile CA failed to promulgate the new constitution due to minority position of the NC. “This time CA will promulgate new constitution if the NC gets majority,” he claimed.

BARA: Senior leader of the Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the NC is also the party of the Madhes-centric parties.

At a mass meeting organized by the NC in Bara today, Deuba said Madhes was the birthplace of the NC and the only NC can draft the new constitution of new Nepal.

He also claimed that the erstwhile Constituent Assembly (CA) failed to draft the constitution due to more seats won by the UCPN (Maoist) in the previous elections. Deuba said that the NC was not anti-federalist and vowed to work for the welfare of the Madhesis.

BHAKTAPUR: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged the party cadres to work rigorously for the upcoming CA election to rout the Maoists.

“People will suffer a lot if Maoists were not defeated in the election,” the former prime minister said at a program here today. He also claimed that the people will give a blow to the Maoists, thanks to latter’s hooliganism and anarchic activities.

The Maoists will not win the election as their activities have come in the fore, he said.

KANCHANPUR: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba today said the Chief Justice (CJ) led government was proposed for holding an election government and it was the best alternative among others.

Deuba said that political parties are striking a deal of consensus to form the CJ-led government.

The former prime minister said that the CJ was forwarded as an alternative as CJ showed his willingness to accept the leadership of an election government.

Speaking at a press meet here, the former prime minister said he is confident that the CJ-led government will hold free and fair election.

Deuba said that the government under the leadership of the CJ would not affect the principle of separation of powers and norms and values of democracy as it will only remain until the election.

According to NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, today’s meeting also constituted a 8-member task force comprising two leaders from each political party—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and Madhesi Morcha.

Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Khimlal Devkota from the UCPN (Maoist), Bhim Rawal and Agni Kharel from the UML, Bimalendra Nidhi and Minendra Rijal from the NC, and Hridayesh Tripathi and Jitendra Dev are in the taskforce.

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) on Tuesday have rejected the UCPN (Maoist)’s proposal to form an election government under the leadership of sitting Chief Justice.

On Monday, major political parties had agreed to form the election government under the leadership of an independent figure, most likely the sitting Chief Justice, to hold the CA elections by May.

The UML took such decision by holding an emergency meeting of the central committee members available in the capital while the NC leaders aired their voices against the CJ-led government at the party meeting today.

The leaders stressed for searching for other option including forming a new government under the leadership of a political figure from within the party. “The NC even should be ready to quit its stance if the parties agree on to form the government under the leadership of the political figure,” the NC leaders told at the meeting.

NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba also said that the leaders have been airing their voices against the CJ-led government.

DHANKUTA: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the NC would not give an alternative to party President Sushil Koirala as a candidate for new prime minister despite Maoists’ repeated calls for giving new candidate for the PM.

Saying that the NC proposed Koirala as the new prime minister at the Maoists’ requests, the NC leader said the NC would not accept anyone except Koirala for the top job.

“We will not accept second person except Sushil Koirala for new prime minister as the NC unanimously decided in the name of Koirala at the requests of Maoists,” Deuba said.

The NC senior leader said that political consensus would be forged within a week if current PM Dr Baburam Bhattarai resigns from the post.

ITAHARI: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba today said the current government has lost morality to lead the election government.

The former prime minister said almost all the constitutional bodies have been vacant due to the Maoists’ design and also holding the CA elections at this situation was almost impossible.

Deuba urged the commoners to join the anti-government protest to topple the current government saying the country was in the path of a failure state due to the current government.

“The NC and other opposition parties have started the street protests for toppling the Dr. Bhattarai-led government. The unity government is only eligible for holding the fresh CA election,” Deuba said addressing the party cadres in Itahari.
