Nepal’s EC ready to conduct polls but officials put forth some riders https://nepalireporter.com/2013/03/8617 https://nepalireporter.com/2013/03/8617#respond Mon, 04 Mar 2013 05:50:36 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=8617 KATHMANDU: Nepal’s election commission (EC) has said that constituent assembly (CA) poll was possible by mid-June, less than 120 days, if some legal issues were settled and commissioners at the EC were appointed soon.

The EC is committed to fulfilling its duty of holding the CA poll if the parties move ahead by joining hands together with full commitment to hold the election by mid-June, Secretary at EC Narayan Gopal Malego said.

However, the major political parties are yet to strike a deal to form the Chief Justice-led election government though they have agreed in principle for the same.

EC’s official’s such statement comes just after some leaders of major political parties are saying that mid-June poll was not possible due to some legal and constitutional hindrances.
