A cabinet meeting on Sunday evening appointed Basnyat for the four years.

Prior to this, Basnyat was the Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

However, the government failed to appoint other ambassadors in key countries including India and others. 

Likewise, Secretary at the Ministry of Urban Development Narayan Prasad Regmi was appointed the Chairman of the High-Level Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee.

The meeting also appointed Sushil Koirala as the General Manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation and Dr Shiva Hari Shrestha as General Manager of the Nepal Food Corporation.

Likewise, the meeting also gave permission to the finance ministry to sign a memorandum of understanding to receive Rs 2.83 billion budgetary assistance from the world bank, Information Minister Madahv Prasad Poudel said after the meeting.

A cabinet meeting held today has also decided to pay the JCF workers in compensation.

A meeting of the council of ministers on Thursday approved nearly Rs 9 billion in loan and grant assistance received from the World Bank.
The money would be spent for the School Sector Reform Program, according to the minister for information Madhav Poudel.

The meeting approved Rs 804.6 million in assistance for the second phase of safer housing project, Poudel said.

Likewise, the meeting approved Rs 7.58 billion in loan received from the Asian Development Bank for the Kathmandu Valley Drainage Management Project and Rs 6.6 billion in assistance for Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF), Minister Poudel added.

The meeting also decided to send an eight-member team under the leadership of the Foreign Affairs Minister to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the Economic and Social Council Meeting to be held on July 1-5.

Likewise today’s cabinet meeting decided that the ministers should submit the presents received from their foreign counterparts to the concerned bodies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would submit the procedures to the government after preparing its draft.

The government also decided to continue the Kamaiya (a practice of bonded labor) Liberation Campaign.

KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting has decided to distribute relief materials to the flood victims of the far western districts at the earliest.

A meeting of the cabinet held today has decided to provide sufficient funds to the flood victims of the far and mid western districts.

Minister for Home Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire said the meeting has allocated Rs 400 million in the Prime Minister Relief Fund and Rs 110 million in the Relief Fund of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Likewise, the government has decided to provide Rs 40,000 each to flood victim. So far, 22 people lost thier lives across the district due to the floods and landslides.

KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting held today has decided to allow the government bodies to import sugar up to 30,000 metric tonnes at one per cent customs duty as an attempt to supply sugar in abundance during the festivities.

The meeting has nominated Dr Bhogendra Sharma in the post of the United Nations Committee against Torture on behalf of Nepal.

Besides, the meeting has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mobilize different diplomatic missions for the candidacy of Sharma.

As per the decision of the meeting, Arjun Babu Dhakal shall be appointed the General Manager of Nepal Water Supply Corporation for a tenure of four years.

Earlier, the Public Corporations Direction Board recommended Dhakal to the post, government Spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel said after the meeting.

Likewise, the meeting has appointed senior scientist officer with the National Forensic Laboratory Jeevan Prasad Rijal to the post of Lab’s Executive Director.

KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting held today has approved the resignation tendered by Vice-chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr Deependra Bahadur Kshetry and three other other members.

The NPC members Janak Raj Shah, Prof Dr Shiva Kumar Rai and Dr Abdul Rahim Mikrani were nominated by erstwhile Baburam Bhattarai-led government.

Earlier, Dr Kshetry and other NPC members had resigned alleging the current government of not cooperating them with their functions.

Similarly, the government appointed Ram Hari Lamichhane as the member secretary of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Interim Election Council of Minister has nodded to the Nepal Army’s proposal for buying arms including general and lethal from India.

A meeting of the cabinet held on Friday took a decision to this effect. After the decision, Nepal’s national army would start afresh procedures to purchase weapons from Nepal’s southern neighbor.

The government headed by Khil Raj Regmi also decided making necessary arrangements of amendment of use of terminologies like ‘kingdom’ and ‘his majesty’ as per the changed political situation, that is end of monarchy.

The cabinet meeting also decided to revamp some words and phrases used in 102 laws during the then regime even after seven years of the abolition of monarchy, Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel told reporters.

The government also decided to accept an Indian assistance of Rs 256.7m for installing some 2700 shallow tube wells in various districts of Terai, said Government Spokesman Paudel.

Similarly, the government also decided to send the procedural draft on giving cash incentive on import substitution and export promotion and expansion to the Economic Infrastructure Committee, he said.

The government also installed five recently promoted APF DIGs and transferred six DIGs to various places. Likewise, the meeting also gave permission to use bulldozers in Chitwan National Park in Bara and Parsa districts for construction of the Postal Highway and for purchasing materials needed for the Nepal Army.

According to Minister Paudel, the meeting also decided to provide Rs. 220,000 as medical expenses for Forest Officer of District Forest Office, Dolakha, Som Bahadur Bamjan who was injured in connection with his duty.
