CLEAN SWEEP FOR LEFT IN CHITWAN

CHITWAN, Dec 11: CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emerged victorious in the House of Representatives election from Chitwan constituency-3. Dahal defeated Rastriya Prajatantra Party- Democratic Vice-chairman Bikram Pandey with a margin of 9,327 votes. Dahal received 48,269 votes while opponent Pandey obtained 38, 942 votes.

With Dahal’s win, Left alliance has made clean sweep in Chitwan, securing victory in all three House of Representatives constituencies and six Province Assemblies of Chitwan.

KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has asked all the political parties, leaders, security bodies and voters to make positive efforts from their side to make the upcoming parliamentary and province assembly election successful. The twin elections are scheduled for November 26 and December 7.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Saturday, Yadav said, “The government has assured of conducting elections in free, fair and peaceful environment. But unless we realize the need of peaceful election environment and make positive efforts for the same, free, fail and peaceful election can be guaranteed.”

Yadav also requested all the political parties to publicize their election campaign peacefully and completely abiding by the election code of conduct and law.

He added, “Only peaceful campaigning will make the voters feel safe and secure and will become enthusiastic about the election; and will respect the political parties.”

CEC Yadav also expressed his worries over the bomb attacks on the vehicles of CPN (Maoist Center) leader Barshaman Pun and Home Minister Janardan Sharma during their election publicity campaign and urged the government to tighten security measures so that no such unpleasant incidents would be repeated again.

“I heard about the bomb attacks on the candidates. I want to request the government to focus on the safety of the candidates campaigning for the election. I hope such unpleasant incidents do not repeat again in any part of the country.”

“It is everyone’s duty to make election environment peaceful so that all the candidates could enjoy their election publicity rights,” he added.

“I also want to request all the news media to help in making election environment peaceful,” he furthered.

On the occasion, Dr Yadav also shared that ballot papers, ballot boxes, ink and other necessary election materials have reached all the 32 districts. He added, “The election officers in process of packing them and sending them to the respective voting centers.”

Yadav furthered: “As the for the December 7 polls, we have already finished printing ballot papers of 15 districts. We are in the process of sending election materials in all 45 districts.”

On a different note, Yadav also lauded Reporters’ Club Nepal’s campaign across the country to help in making election environment peaceful and fair. He added, “Rishi Dhamala has told me that he is starting his campaign from Jhapa. I wish all the best to the club and its President Dhamala for a successful campaign. It is really an important effort in view of the upcoming elections.”

“I am also thankful to all the news media of the country for disseminating positive news and reports regarding the election. The credit for successful conduction of three phases of local level election also goes to online, television, print media and radio.”

“I hope for the same in the coming days.”

RAJBIRAJ, Oct 25: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said the upcoming polls to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies to be held on November 26 and December 7 would not be stopped at any cost.

Dr Yadav, who arrived in Saptari on Wednesday for the preparations of polls, said that postponement of the polls at this point would be equal to a serious offence.

On the occasion, he pledged actions whoever involved in violation of elections code of conducts and also urged the politicians to be serious towards elections code of conducts.

Dr Yadav expressed disappointment to the act of distributing parties’ flags, t-shirts with parties’ election symbols, caps and towels during elections but the same leaders failing to do the same things to the poor and flood victims.

He also directed the local administration to take action against the teachers and government campus chiefs and school principals directly involved in election publicity.

Saying a single ballot paper would be printed for both elections, Yadav urged the locals of province no 2 to participate in the upcoming elections as in the local-level election.

Present on the occasion were Chief Election Officer of the district, Harish Chandra Dhungana, election officers of four constituencies, Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey, chiefs of security bodies, political leaders and media persons.

KATHMANDU, July 21: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has said all the three levels of election were imperative for the implementation of the constitution and that the date for the election of the province and federation would be announced soon.

Addressing a program organized by the Society for Democratic Thinking today to commemorate the 35th memorial day of the popular leader the late BP Koirala, PM Deuba underlined the need of conducting all the three levels of elections within the time frame stipulated by the constitution.

“The election constituency delimitation commission has been constituted on Thursday only in preparation for the state and federation elections,” he said, adding that two rounds of the local-level elections have already been held while the third phase local election for Province 2 is due on September 18.

He was of the view that the federal democratic republic would be stabilized only after the conduction of the three-tier elections in the stipulated timeframe.

The Prime Minister, who is also the Nepali Congress president, stated that as the largest and the oldest democratic party in the country it was incumbent upon the Nepali Congress to transform the parties yet to change themselves in democratic parties to do so.

Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC expressed concern over the growing culture of power-sharing among the political parties rather than respecting the knowledge and skills of an individual while making appointments to different high posts in the state bodies. He called on the intellectual community to give realistic suggestions based on critical truth to the rulers.

Party leader Sujata Koirala said the people have trusted the Nepali Congress throughout as it has always played a leading role for resolving each and every crisis facing the country, and drew the attention of the party leadership over the waning in people’s trust towards the party in the latest elections.

Another party leader Laxman Ghimire expressed worry over the tenets of nationality, democracy and socialism propounded by the late BP Koirala getting shadowed, saying the public trust towards politics and the political leaders was on the wane due to the high-handed activities of the present political leadership.

Society president Dr Kedar Narsingh KC, senior vice-president and RSS chairman Kul Chandra Wagle, former president Homnath Dahal, Nepal Bar Association president Sher Bahadur KC, secretary Dr Basudev Bhandari, among the speakers, talked about the works carried out by the Society and its relevance.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba honored party leader Chakra Prasad Bastola with the ‘Loktantrik Yodhdha (Democratic Fighter)’ title and a cash prize of Rs 25 thousand. Bastola has been hospitalized for long and is in a semi-conscious state.

Bastola’s spouse, Kusum Bastola received the award on behalf of her bed-ridden husband.
A special publication entitled ‘Chintan’ dedicated to former Prime Minister and party president the late Girija Prasad Koirala, was also released on the occasion. RSS

Talking to Reporters’ Club Nepal’s President and senior journalist in New Delhi on Sunday, the Indian leaders marked election an important tool to institutionalize the achievements of democracy. They also said that they are happy about the election going to take place in Nepal.

Indian Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that the election in Nepal is necessary to implement the Federal Democratic System and to attract the prospects of development and prosperity. He further said the India’s only interest towards Nepal was Nepal’s progress.

Likewise, Chief of foreign department of Congress I, Dr Karan Singh also said that he was excited regarding the election in Nepal. Stating that election in Nepal will help institutionalize democracy, he appealed Rastriya Janata Party Nepal to participate in the election.

Similarly, Janata Party United leader Sarad Yadav also wished for peace, stability and prosperity in Nepal. He was of the view that election in Nepal will solidify the democratic gains of the country.

General Secretary of Indian Communist Party Marxist Sitaram Yachuri was also positive about the Nepal election. He also expressed his belief that the second phase local level election and the election of province and federal level will be held in Nepal in time.

Congress I Nationalist General Secretary DP Tripathi also said that he was very happy that Nepal is conduction election for the very first time in 20 years. He further said the he was a friend with Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. He added, “I am really happy that Deuba has become the PM of Nepal.”

During a meeting with senior leaders of major political parties at the President Office, Sheetal Niwas, today, President Bhandari further expressed her confidence on the successful completion of three tier of elections as per the constitutional provision as a consensus among the parties regarding local poll was praiseworthy.

According to President Bhandari’s chief personal secretary Bheshraj Adhikari, President Bhandari also apprised the leaders about her Sri Lanka visit commencing from Friday.
