KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress is trying to woe top Kollywood actor Rajesh Hamal for contending Constituent Assembly elections from its side.

Party president Sushil Koirala, actor Nir Shah and Raj Kumar Rai on Friday reached out to Hamal with the proposal.

During the meeting, Koirala offered both candidacies- direct or proportional – to Hamal. However, Hamal did not commit on the moment.

While conceding that he supports democratic forces, Hamal promised Koirala of getting back in touch to him later after holding consultations with his industry stakeholders.

Exiting the meeting, Nir Shah however confirmed that he is intending to join Nepali Congress formally.

Similarly, Rai is also mulling on joining Nepali Congress.

KATHMANDU: Comedian Deepak Raj Giri has accused Nepal Traffic Police of exploiting his labor and not fulfilling their commitment. Giri issued a press release on Monday and claimed that the Traffic Police did not oblige by its promise of returning his license back even though he had participated in an one-hour traffic awareness program for the the department.

Giri’s license was ceased by the Metropolitan Traffic Police for driving under influence (MaPaSe)and the then Traffic Police DIG Upendra Kant Aryal had pledged discount Giri of the one-hour correction program of the department if Giri participated in their awareness program, Giri said in the press release.

Giri said that though he has already fulfilled his promised the Traffic Police department denied to return his license after DIG Kant was replaced by DIG Keshav Adhikari.

He said that the traffic police has been denying to cooperate with him for cheap popularity and expressed grief that the apex body of the Traffic police department could not keep their promise.

Stating that it was against his fundamental rights to pay double penalty for a single offense, Giri said that he won’t attend the one-hour correction program, as he has already volunteered for the traffic police in its stead.

SYDNEY, Australia: Promo and poster of Nepali feature flim Ritu, has been released in Sydney recently. The promo was released amid a grand reception in Syndey on Saturday participated by leading Nepalese residing there.

Speaking on the occasion, President of the NRN Australia Mahendra Oli pledged to assist in promoting and preserving every endeavors of Nepalese youths and entrepreneurs in Australia.

Film crew and cast members were introduced during the program which include Raj Ballav Koirala, Malina Joshi, Reeem Biswakarma, among others.

The program was also attended by NRN Oceana Coordinator Man KC, NRN Australia General secretary Bharat Pokhrel among others.
This move produced by Alfa Films is directed by director Manoj Adhikari.

KATHMANDU: Narvada Devi, a Nepali poetess residing in the United States for a long time has published her first poem anthology- Chattan (Rock).

Bairagi Kainla, Chancellor of Nepal Academy inaugurated the anthology amid a special program in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Kainla appreciated the contribution of Nepali expats to Nepali literature and Nepali economy. Elaborating on the issues covered by the anthology, Kainla said that poems reflected the current socio-economic situation and added that the poems have called to fight back against odds like a rock.

Speaking on the occasion, Utendra Dahal said that the poems reflected day to day life events of common people and added that the stylistics matched the content and theme of the poems.

Journalist Harihar commented that the anthology will be great inspiration for all women and appreciated the efforts of Narvda Devi for putting her views and feelings in those poems.

KATHMANDU: Actress Namrata Shrestha and actor Saugat Malla have signed a deal in an upcoming movie ‘Jatra’ in the major roles. The movie will be the first of its kind where the two popular celebrities would perform in opposite roles.

Previously, Saugat and Namrata were also featured in ‘Chadke’– a popular movie.

Nepal’s one of the sought after director Alok Nemwang will direct the movie ‘Jatra’ . Some of the successful films directed by Alok include ‘Kohi Mero’ and ‘Sano Sansar’.

It is learnt that pilot Bijaya Lama has has agreed to invest in the film.

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s hottest and most sought after actress Rekha Thapa has said that she has not thought of remarrying, Rekha told a TV interview. However, Rekha said, “I want to be a mother.”

Thapa has separated from her former husband Chhabi Raj Ojha. However, they have not divorced legally yet.

Currently, Rekha is living with her mother. She also said, “I want to live together without wedlock like Komal Oli and Mithila Sharma.”

KATHMANDU: Famous Kallywood actor Rekha Thapa is presenting herself in the role of Kali (black, generally given to Nepali girl if they are pampered) in her new ventured titled ‘Kali’.

The film is being prepared under the banner of Rekha Films that prepared many hit films in the Nepali cinema industry.

Rekha Thapa, also a politician in Nepal, is the producer of the film too. Recently, Nepal’s hottest actress Thapa had joined Nepal’s largest political party UCPN (Maoist).

After getting divorce with Chhabi Raj Ojha, Rekha is starting her own venture.

The first movie of Chhabi Raj production was jointly produced by Rekha Films and Chhabi Raj Films.

KATHMANDU:  Actress Nisha Adhikari has scaled Mount Everest on Tuesday morning, becoming the first Nepali actress to climb the world’s highest peak.

Adhikari scaled Mt Everest at 8:00 this morning, according to the officials.

However, Adhikari was given the  status of an assistant to a Chinese expedition team.

KATHMANDU: Gender equity and feminist movement have been sometimes misinterpreted by some socialites to their advantages. But still there are the others who always balance. One of the latter’s lot is Nepali model Muskan Limbu. Her balanced view and appreciation of the opposite sex’s ‘positive characteristics’ won the crown- Miss Mongol 2013.

Limbu said that women have some good things to learn from men when it came to leadership. “A man’s leadership is very strong as they know how to act creatively in any difficult situation,”the 19 year old Limbu who has spent most of her recent times walking on the fashion ramp in Nepal before wearing the crown this year.

“Despite failure, with continued passion it always leads to success seeing a man’s power on how they lead a family, society or a country,” Limbu said in response to the final question asked by Miss Mongol 2011- Sumnima Dewan.

Originally from Lalitpur, Limbu has spent some of her teenage years in Singapore after being educated at the Khumaltar school and lately she has been walking on the ramp for some leading brands in Nepal.

The Miss Mongol pageant held at the Army Officers’ Club, on April 6 picked Muskan from the 26 mongoalians competing for the crown.

Along with the crown, she received a cash prize of Rs 100,000 from the organizers and four day stay in Mongolia along with $1,200 from World Centre for Mongol.

Bani Rai and Sonu Shrestha were the first and second runners-up respectively.

Of all the beauties that Nepal has, it was Ishani Shrestha who was crowned Fanta the Hidden Treasure Miss Nepal 2013  on March 20 amid a glittering grand finale of the beauty pageant organized at Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi.

Ishani, a student of dentistry, has interests in dance art and travel. had won the crown owing to her love for joint family and the tradition it is attached to.

Former Chief Secretary Tirtha Man Shakya, who was Chief Judge of the event, question to the top five beauties was the deciding one. He had asked them to elaborate on their preferences between “nuclear family or joint family”

Shrestha won the hearts of the judges and the audience with her answer, “I prefer joint family. Growing up in a joint family has taught me to be a people’s person. It has taught me to use my lips for kindness, my vision for passion, my ears for help, hands for charity and heart for love. My joint family has taught me great morals and values that I will hold for the rest of my life. It has made me become the strong, reliable, humble, helpful and independent woman that I am today. That is why I prefer joint family.”

During the grand finale, she was graceful, elegant and walked with confidence.  After the win, the 21 year old beauty from Naxal, Kathmadu, was “happy and speechless”. She expressed that it was her hard work and belief that won her the coveted crown. She was in tears. There was uncertainty regarding the final winner but it was predictable after the last question and answer round. And Palita Thapa from the audience agreed on the final choice.

“She was beautiful and the height is in accordance to the international level. And her last answer was great,” she points out.

I am beyond happy. Thank you for getting me here. My hard work and determination has paid off,” said an emotional Shrestha right after being crowned.

Meanwhile, Shritima Shah was titled Miss Nepal International 2013 and Rojisha Shahi was crowned Miss Nepal Earth 2013 at the event. Shahi received a cash prize of Rs 35,000, while Shah received Rs 25,000

The event started on time with the introduction round. The girls took to the stage all looking fabulous in gowns and traditional wear. And they were judged by Miss Nepal 2011 Malina Joshi, Managing Director of Bottlers Nepal Salman Latif Rawn, Director of Public Relations and Publicity Department of Nepal Tourism Board Aditya Baral, Dr Aarati Shah among others.
