KATHMANDU, Dec 17: The vote counting of the Proportional Representation (PR) category of House of Representatives (HoR) election has concluded in all 77 districts on Sunday, said the Election Commission.

As per the final result, CPN-UML has secured first position with 3,173,494 votes under PR system. Earlier, UML was also declared as the the largest party who won 80 seats in HoR under first-past-the-post (FTPT) category and 168 Province Assembly seats.

Nepali congress (NC) finished close to UML receiving 3,128,389 votes while CPN (Maoist Center) garnered 1,303,721 votes. Under FPTP category, NC won 23 HoR seats and 41 provincial seats and Maoist Center won 36 HoR and 73 provincial seats.

Likewise, Rastriya Janta Party Nepal, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal fourth and fifth largest parties receiving 472,254 and 470201 votes respectively. RJPN has also secured win in 11 federal constituencies and 16 provincial constituencies, while Federal Socialist Forum Nepal in 10 federal constituencies and 24 provincial constituencies.

Only these five parties, having crossed three percent threshold, will secure their presence in the federal parliament as national parties.

Of the other parties who could not cross threshold, Bibeksheel Sajha Party garnered 212,366 votes whereas the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) received 196,782 votes, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Democratic (RPP-D) got 88,377 votes while Naya Shakti Party, Nepal (NSPN) obtained 81,837 votes.

Applying the Sainte-Laguë method, which the Commission will use, it can be calculated that Of the total 110 PR seats, CPN-UMLwill get 41 seats, closely followed by Nepali Congress. The Congress will have 40 seats. The CPN-Maoist Centre will get 17 seats. Likewise, RJPN and FSFN will have 6 seats each.

The commission, however, said that PR seats allocation will get a few more days.

CHITWAN, Nov 10: CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has termed the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies ‘significant’ in view of political stability and development.

Leader Dahal, who is contending the federal election from the Chitwan constituency no. 3 from the leftist alliance, said this during his interaction with voters in Chitwan on Friday.

The party held a door to door election publicity campaign in the Chitwan-3. The twin elections have been scheduled for November 26 and December 7.

On the occasion, locals urged Dahal to immediately make initiations to repair the damaged roadways and develop necessary physical structure in the locality.
