KATHMANDU: Nepal’s nine opposition political parties including the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) have claimed to topple the Baburam Bhattarai-led government through the street protests.

Organizing a middle-sized mass meeting in the capital on Friday, the top guns of the opposition parties said the anti-government agitation was just a trailer. They also announced to bring new and stern programs to topple the government if the Bhattarai-led government did not quit.

They also ruled out the possibility of a Chief Justice-led election government adding that an independent judiciary should not be dragged into controversy by offering unnecessary political posts.

Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, the NC and UML prime ministerial candidate, said the Maoists were continuing the politics of violence by threatening and that will be the very cause of end of the party if it continues such practices.

Likewise, NC Sher Bahadur Deuba said the present government should be removed from power in order to hold free and fair elections to the CA.

Similarly, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel accused the Maoists of not quitting the government fearing that they would be routed in the elections.

Likewise, CPN (UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal argued that the opposition parties were hitting the streets as the Maoists ignored the politics of consensus, progress and changes.

“We will bring a storm through a joint movement against the government that is attempting to impose authoritarianism by increasing anarchy and corruption,” Khanal warned.

POKHARA: The top leaders of opposition political parties slammed the UCPN (Maoist) and incumbent government for impeding the process of consensus.

Speaking at an anti-government demonstration in Pokhara on Monday, CPN (UML) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal came down heavily upon the UCPN (Maoist) and it’s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ for being a liar.

The UML leader was o the view that Prachanda is likely to face similar fate to that of former king Gyanendra if the Maoist supremo continued ‘cheating people’.

However, a soft-spoken NC Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel said the people would come to the streets to end the Maoists’ totalitarianism, forcing the Maoists for consensus.

Poudel said that the Maoists were imposing totalitarianism forcefully by seizing the state authority thereby the President should give a wayout to the country without any delay.

Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shumsher JBR, UML leader Khagaraj Adhikari, NC leader Man Bahadur GC and Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal leader Shakar Baral, among others addressed the mass meeting organized in Chipledhunga.

NEPALGUNJ: Nepali Congress influential leader K P Sitaula has claimed that that ruling parties have obliterated consensus talks between ruling and opposition parties to resolve political status quo.

Speaking to journalists here, Sitaula claimed that presentation of the budget ordinance and announcement of CA elections for April May by the ruling parties without consulting opposition parties,  reflected the government’s totalitarian tendency.

” The government which had failed to hold CA elections on its own date has announced another date without holding consultations with opposition parties. This is nothing more than ruling parties trick to prolong stay in power,” Sitaula summarized.

Sitaula further claimed that his party will strengthen ties with other opposition parties and launch agitation against the government in the days ahead and announced the end of consensus talks with the government on the occasion.

He claimed that CA elections were not possible in April/ May without garnering consensus by November end and added that the possibility of consensus had ended with the announcement of new CA elections date by the government on Tuesday.

On the occasion, he urged party cadres to gear up for a stern agitation against the government. (nepalireporter.com)
