KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Nepal Student Union President Nain Singh Mahar has said that his organization will not run away for the upcoming Free Student Union elections. He also urged the government to create favorable environment for conduction elections.

The Tribhuvan University (TU) has preparing to conduct the FSU elections in all its affiliated colleges across the country in February-March.

Mahar clarified that they have already written to the university to conduct the elections on February 26.

“We wrote the TU about a month ago. We are still fixated on this decision,” said Mahar at an interaction program organized by Reporters’ Club Nepal on Tuesday.

He also claimed that the NSU will win the FSU elections. “NSU is a democratic union. There is no force that can defeat NSU. Hence, we won’t run away from the elections,” he said.

“We have already hold discussions with Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. I have told him that baton charging and injuring students, and arresting them won’t help in holding elections.”

“As a Chancellor of the TU, it is his responsibility to conduct elections. It is his responsibility to assure peaceful and secure environment for the elections.”

He also accused the incumbent government is carrying out activities oriented toward foiling student elections.

“The government is intending to impose authoritarianism in the country by collapsing the elected organizations. It is planning to start this through FSU elections,” he further blamed.

Also speaking on the occasion, All Nepal Free Student Union (Revolutionary) Chairman Ranjeet Tamang highlighted the need to hold FSU elections in time and assured that the university is preparing to hold election on the proposed date (February 26).

“The university will soon summon all the students’ unions,” he said.

He further assured that the government will release the arrested cadres of NSU and create peaceful environment for holding elections.
