RATNANAGAR: Nepali Congress vice president Ram Chandra Paudel has stressed on the need of selecting capable and qualified candidates in the upcoming Constituent Assembly election.

Stating that the party had to face defeat due to many weaknesses in the past, vice president Paudel instructed the party cadres to select the candidates with the thinking that the party is above the individual.

Vice president Paudel, who arrived here to attend the Central Convention of Nepal Trade Union Congress-Independent, said this in a meeting with party cadres on Monday.

He cautioned the party cadres that the present time was not for wrangling on the party’s internal dispute but a time to participate in the election as a single block.

He said that a democratic constitution would not be possible in the country until the Nepali Congress wins in the election.

The Nepali Congress vice president reiterated that the election to the Second Constituent Assembly would take place on the designated date itself at any cost.

The top leaders are meeting the party cadres in the district in a bid to resolve the dispute in the Nepali Congress Chitwan district committee.

DAILEKH: Nepali Congress second in command Ram Chandra Poudel, who hinted at the polls alliance with the CPN-UML for the upcoming CA elections, has said that the UML is the most opportunist political party in the country and forging the polls alliance with the semi-communist would be a suicidal case to the NC.

Poudel was speaking at a cadres meet program at Rakam of Dailekh on Thursday. But, he said options were open to forge the polls alliance with other democratic political. Poudel also termed the UML as the political party sans political thoughts and bases.

“There is no meaning of poll alliance with the opportunist political force. The NC will get a clear majority in its own strength and we will draft a democratic constitution,” Poudel fumed against the UML.

POKHARA: Nepal’s grand old party Nepali Congress (NC) that divided over the Chief Justice-led government is again divided in another issue of whether or not to forge an alliance with other parties in the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

NC’s top leader—President Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel—who spoke at a same forum in Pokhara today opined separate understanding for forging the alliance in the upcoming CA polls though both the leaders promised to make the NC the single largest party in the CA cum legislature-parliament.

At the press meet in Pokhara, Koirala said the NC should join hands together with the democratic forces to secure more seats while Deuba and Poudel outright rejected the idea and opined the NC should contest single-handed.

“We don’t need to make the alliance. Maoists are making alliance as the party suffered a split,” Deuba interrupted Koirala while latter was speaking.

The UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has already announced to forge an alliance with progressive forces to secure two-thirds majority in the CA polls.

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel has warned that the ongoing political status quo won’t resolve unless the UCPN Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal repents all his political misdeeds and personally invites NC President Sushil Koirala to lead the consensus government.

Paudel accused Dahal of jeopardising national interest for his peersonal and partisan interest and stated that he should present clarification for not forming consensus government in NC’s leadership as promised by him.

He added that his party was ready to mule on other alternatives if Prachanda came up with an apology to the NC President.
Speaking in the television talk R D Show, to be televised on Himalayan Television at 9 pm on Saturday, Paudel said that the trend of announcing PM candidate from the party’s general convention, as did by the UCPN Maoist, was not indicative of seeking consensus and resolution in national politics.

Paudel said that his party won’t accept the UCPN Maoist proposal to form consensus government in Chief Justice’s leadership, claiming that such a step would jeopardise the neutrality of the judicial organ itself.

He said that his party trusted the capacity of the CJ, but maintained that his party will not support the proposal that would ultimately fail multiparty democracy.
