KATHMANDU: Nepali students recently presented Nepali cultural, religious and natural heritages at an 44-nation participated international festival.

Nepali students studying at the Ajou University participated in the festival in the leadership of Suraj Kaduwal KC, originally from Jhapa. The festival was organized by the university.

In their special stall, these students presented pictures, artifacts, and symbols that presented some special attributes of Nepali life.

Pictures and print outs posted at the stall relayed the message that Lord Buddha was born in Nepal and that Nepal is home to world’s tallest peak- Mt. Everest.

Visitors interested in culture and arts had thronged the stall for knowing more about Nepal’s culture and life styles.

Renu Thapa, Prasansa Panta, and Sujata Bantawa danced to folk tunes in traditional Nepali attires.

Nepali students Bhojendra Tulachan, Prasansa Panta, Renu Thapa, Ganesh Paudel, Gopal Bohara, Subash Marasaini, Tikaram Aryal, Anni Vaiba, Sujata Bantawa, Sushil Bijukche, Nawraj Basnet , among others informed all the visitors about Nepal and assisted in making the event more informative.

While thanking his team for their rigurous work throughout, KC said that their objective to tell the world about Nepali culture and heritages succeded.

Around 40 Nepalese student are presently enrolled at the University. This was the first time that Nepalese students made a noteable presence in University’s program.

They collected the fund through cultural programme in Hong Kong for the blind resource classes in Gyanodaya Secondary School of Piple, Mauwaphant and Pulachaur-based Baljagriti Primary School and deaf classes in Dhaulagiri Secondary School in Singa by people of Myagdi living in Hong Kong for jobs.

Treasurer of Myagdi Overseas Nepalese Association (MONA) Hong Kong Karna Pun informed this at a press meet organised in Beni.

In the cultural programme that included panche baja and dances, Rs. 4,355,381 was collected and Rs. 1,055,381 was the expenditure, said Pun and informed that Rs. 1.1 million each will be provided to the three schools.

MONA Hong Kong Chairman Dal Sherpunja said a revolving fund will be set up for the disabled classes.

KATHMANDU: The Sixth General Assembly of the Non Residential Nepalese Association has elected Shesh Ghale as its president.  The jamboree tested both contenders Ghale and South Korea based Tenzi Sherpa after talks to select a President through consensus failed.

Ghale got the top post with 510 votes and Sherpa bagged 280 votes.

Similarly, Bhawan Bhatta has been elected Vice-Chairman, Kumar Pant as General Secretary, Ranju Pant as secretary and Badri KC has been elected as the treasurer from Ghale’s panel.

Bhatta garnered 348 votes, Pant 395 votes, Thapa 272 votes and KC garnered 472 votes.

Ghale reportedly got to have received the support of all three candidates–UK-based Hitman Gurung, Germany-based Ram Pratap Thapa and UAE-based Rameshwor– who withdrew from the race for the top post.

Meanwhile, Ganga Rai has been elected the coordinator for Asia, Rabindra Prasad Shrestha as the Vice-Coordinator, Arjun Shrestha as the coordinator for Europe, Chandra Roka as the coordinator for mid-east and Hikmat Thapa as the coordinator for Africa.

A total of 1,302 voters elected a 22-member new NRNA executive body for two years.

KATHMANDU: Malaysia, one of the most frequented destinations by Nepalese job seekers, seems to be gaining a worst reputation. Reports have claimed that so far six thousand and two hundred Nepalese have gone missing in Malaysia.

Migrant Nepali Coordination Committee (MNCC), an organization which has been closely monitoring the dissappearance of Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia reported that these Nepalese went missing in Malaysia where they had reached for employment.

“Of these one thousand and 2 hundred are totally disappeared. Neither they are in touch with their relatives back at home nor anyone in Malaysia knows about them,” President of the MNCC, Mahendra Pandey said.

MNCC has been continously searching the records of migrant workers in Malaysia by visiting them and their relatives in Nepal.

The report further suggested that around five thousand Nepalese have married with foriegn woman and settled down in Malaysia.

And of these 2 thousand Nepalese are already married back at home and to avoid their families to know about these they have severed contact with their family, Pandey said.

90 percent of these Nepalese have married Indonesian girls, a report in Nagarik Dainik on Tuesday reported. Remaining 10 percent have married with Phillipino and other local women.

Most of them are hiding in Malaysia and some of them have resettled in the country of their spouse, the report said.

The program was organized as part of the embassy long kept tradition to invite Nepalese daughters and sisters in the DC area to the Teej reception and organize cultural programs that would make them feel at home.

Participants in the program said that they were glad that the embassy organized the event and made them feel at home with their parents and guardians. They said the event mirrored the care that the embassy provided to its citizenry in the United states.

Spouse of Nepalese ambassador to the USA, Mrs. Kalpana Sharma had coordinated the event sponsored by the embassy.

SYDNEY, Australia: Promo and poster of Nepali feature flim Ritu, has been released in Sydney recently. The promo was released amid a grand reception in Syndey on Saturday participated by leading Nepalese residing there.

Speaking on the occasion, President of the NRN Australia Mahendra Oli pledged to assist in promoting and preserving every endeavors of Nepalese youths and entrepreneurs in Australia.

SahaAlam, Malaysia: A Nepali man in his late forty’s hanged himself from a ceiling fan of his residence here on March 20. The deceased identified as Madan Kumar Shrestha, originally from Jhapa in Nepal, hanged himself during night.

His body was recovered from the room of his rented apartment only the following day when he did not answered calls of his friend and supervisor.

Shrestha was working with a local construction company and the factors for his death, which is tagged as suicide, has not yet been ascertained.

His body was taken to the Kelang hospital for postmortem. He had reached Malaysia three years ago via the Delta Manpower Agency.

He is survived by a son, two daughter and wife.

Anur Alma Hawari (18), son of Mani Hawari of Dhobiya Tola in Lahawarthakari-8 in Parsa was killed by unknown people.

He was killed by stabbing in 15 days of reaching there, and the whole of Dhobiya Tole has been in grief. His cousin Najir Hawari who accompanied him was also seriously injured and his condition is critical, said father of the deceased.

The family was preparing for his marriage in Bharbaliya of India after 16 days. The father has urged the Nepal government to take initiative for taking action against the culprit.

SYDNEY: The Nima Ruma fever recently swayed Nepalese residing in Australia’s Sydney. The event organized to mark the Tamang Lhosar by Tamang Samaj, was a huge success as Nepali youths residing in the area and elsewhere in Australia just joined Rumba on the dance floor at the New South Venus.

The program was specially organized to collect funds for the treatment of Sangeeta Tamang Lama, a Nepali women struggling with cancer. Rumba had the seriatim of his both old and new collections.

This program, organized in Sham Town hall on Saturday had been attended by (N.S.W) chief Nepali ambassador who proclaimed that celebrating Lhosar is the positive aspect of conserving the tribe’s embolic and coalescence.

According to chairperson of Nepali Indigenous Nationalities Forum, Ganesh Tamang had given his stance that every single tribal community should follow the same traditions for the sake of preserving one’s identity.

Similarly for the consistently preserving unity and development, the counselor of minister’s committee Mahendra Lamsal,chairperson of New South Wales, Tamang Samaj ,Arun Tamang had also bruited about in this topic .

Aftermath of this formal program, this musical program was consorted by the concerted performances of Rajesh K.C, Sujata Upadhyaya, Sujata K.c, along with the artists from indigenous bands. And the demonstration of Damphu dance, Tamangselo with other collaborative dances was successful to mesmerize the heart of the audience.

Miss cyber Nepal Australia, Sandhya Tamang, along with many brilliant brat packs had presented their dances. A music album by Pasang Wanjee Shyam Tamang was also inaugurated on the occasion.

Along with hitting the dance floor, participants also enjoyed ethnic Nepali cuisines on the occasion after senior Nepalese citizens worshipped Lord Buddha.
