KATHMANDU: Veteran singer and musician Phatteman Rajbhandari passed away on Monday night in Kathmandu while undergoing treatment for lung cancer.

Phatteman (77) was undergoing treatment at the Om Hospital in Chabahil. His body was kept at the premise of the Elderly at Pashupati till 10 am for paying last repsects.

Born in Devpattan in the Pashupati area on November 28, 1936, Rajbhandari was an accomplished singer and musician. Dedicating five decades for music, he lent his voice to and composed music for more than 400 songs and hymns.

‘Marna baru garho hunna’ ‘Jeewan haru ko geet’, “Banai khayo dadhelo le”, “Yesto pani hundo raichha”, “sannani ko gaalai maa” and “Raat ko sapana” are some of his most acclaimed numbers.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

KATHMANDU: Actress Namrata Shrestha and actor Saugat Malla have signed a deal in an upcoming movie ‘Jatra’ in the major roles. The movie will be the first of its kind where the two popular celebrities would perform in opposite roles.

Previously, Saugat and Namrata were also featured in ‘Chadke’– a popular movie.

Nepal’s one of the sought after director Alok Nemwang will direct the movie ‘Jatra’ . Some of the successful films directed by Alok include ‘Kohi Mero’ and ‘Sano Sansar’.

It is learnt that pilot Bijaya Lama has has agreed to invest in the film.

Nepali youth or to say dashing singer Kamal Khatri has been a hit among music lovers and of course among teens that are crazy for his looks and songs alike. This dashing originally from the eastern Nepal-Sarlahi, created ripples in Nepali music industry through his “Nakkali Maiya” followed by huge success in “Sustari Sustari”. He has already shot up as a rising star and now looks forward to dive deep into the glamor industry. You are very busy right nowadays?

Yes. since Dashain, I have been busy .I have to manage recording, composition and all programs .Often I think my mind will go hang because of overburden.

… so what? Earning good amounts of bucks?
Ha ha ha..Might be but shower of love of audiences is bestowed upon me.

What is happening with your songs and musics? When’ll you be launching your third album?
I have sung a duet song with Rekha didi (Rekha shah) .It’s video is being worked upon. Other songs are also being recorded .Some mixing, arrangement so on and so forth. The rhythm and humming of” aatmama” is being included in “tukreko mutu ”and this is going to be launched but this time album’ll not be launched.
Why so?
Launching album is not profitable. It’ll cast a shadow in other songs except promotional songs. So, if launched in seriatim, then each song would be justified.

Is this true that you used to work in studio?

Yes..In B.S 2059, I entered Kathmandu from Sarlahi in order to sing a song. But,let alone singing, I was not even able to earn my living. I urged one of my kin of Balaju and handed a recording mike, cables to be worked with as a job .I had great passion for singing a song. It was so depressing to arrange mike for other singers.

Then, what did you do?

After then, studios made me cry a lot. They used to soothe me saying that they’ll let me record my own song if I work there. I believed in that, but at last, nothing, everybody lingered me.  So much frustrated I was that I had also returned back to my village 2 or 3 times. But it used to make me realize that I am a quitter. So again, I came back to Kathmandu. Neither was I able to stay here or there .Had gone mad once… (Laughs)

DID you use to attend any classes of music or not?

I didn’t use to have even fares to pay for riding in bus. How could one possibly think of attending music classes?

How you come to know about “ETHOS BAND”and grow your relation?

While I was working in studio, I got to know Ajay Shumsher Rana. After having a talk, I came to know about his plan of opening a band and he was in seek of vocalist. After coming to know that I know singing, we started off with new band.

Hence after, you opened you fate to success?

And now, you are lyricist, singer, composer, all in one. How would you like to be greeted?
I am singer. Of course, I write songs but I became composer, can say, due to my own unavoidable circumstances.

Is that? Please say explicitly.

I used to have songs. But, after presenting before composers, they used to say “good” and then no follow ups .I brainstormed myself then, thinking that, it is better to compose my songs by myself, I learnt composing too. Now, I am composing my as well as other’s songs too.

Is this true that your compositions are of same and similar patterns?
 No…I always am working upon to give a variety in my songs but nowadays love songs are in vogue .If my audience seeks for the same, and then it is futile to present other type of songs. Everybody has told me to sing the very song like”aatmama” after witnessing it’s hit.

Who is there in the “aatma” of the singer “aatmama”?
Only fans are there. Others   no one.

All fake things?
Actually, fans have told me not to marry .That’s why (laughs).

Are you going to be lifetime bachelor for your fans?

Not like that. Time has not come to give marriage a thought.

When the time will come then?

Just touching 17-18 years of age .Few years, let’s see.

Kollywood diva Nisha Adhikari has been famous in Nepal’s small yet highly competitive film industry. Despite being a double graduate in business and social sciences from some of most prestigious universities in the world, she chose an highly challenging career.

Reporters Nepal dot com recently managed to get some time from her busy schedule-which she divides between a corporate house and her movies- to inquire about her love and life relationship. Here are the edited exceprts of her bio and of course her persona as a daughter, as a sister, as a member of our society, as a marketing professional, as an actress and as a hot unmarried girl.

Nisha is presently associated with Presidential Plam as a marketing consultant which involves assignments such as employee recruitment, advertising, office set up among others. This is her third stint in the field and she says that she loves her work.

Love Life

This 26 year old most sought after actress has not made any valentines so far. During this years valentine too she was buried in her office papers. And more to that she has not yet made any plans in that direction. Why? Simple her elder brother (senior by four and half years) is yet to get married. Luckily he will be engaged this year and then its Nisha’s turn.

She says that her family has not approached her for getting married so far and with joy she says that she has plans to complete her post graduation and pin down a direction for her future career.

Responding to question about her thoughts on marriage, Nisha says that marriage is not an issue to contemplate. ” There is no age for love and marriage. It can happen any time. And of course we all have the right to do it.”

She isnt dating anyone and says that she has been to buried in her work for responding to any proposals. She is satisfied with her work and claims that she had rejected a love proposal while she was studying A level. And that was the first and last time she had a coffee with a boy who wanted to be her boyfriend. But that was also rejecting, not accepting.

Criteria for her life partner:

Though she has not been in an love affair so far, she certainly has made some criteria to choose one when the right time comes knocking on her heart’s door. The guy should be simple and civilized. Besides he should be adequately educated, should respect everyone’s work and should be able to understand her feelings and of course work.

For her lover marriage is just simply love between two humans but is a relationship between two families, communities and societies.

Despite being not in an affair so far, Nisha prioritizes love marriage over arrange marriage. She looks forward to marry a guy by taking his family’s consent.

Her Social Indulgences:

Nisha has been associated with a social service organization- Yuva Udan. Through this organization she has been contributing to the development and promoting creativeness among youths.

Childhood:

She was born at the Mission Hospital of Tansen, Palpa as daughter to father Khadag Bahadur Adhikari and mother Durga Adhikari. Her paternal home is in Lamjung and her maternal home is Palpa. Khadag Bahadur had served the United Mission to Nepal and her mother was a lecturer at Nursing Campus.

Her mother wanted to her to be a gynecologist but Nisha studied Business as major during her A level. She has completed double graduation in Business Economics and Politics. She has studied in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Germany and in the United States.

In US she has completed a short course in film studies.

Professional Career:

She had never thought of making a career in the film industry. And presently also she is not sure, if acting would be her profession in the days ahead.

She entered the glamour industry as a journalist and as beauty pageant. She won the title of Miss International 2005 and had participated in the first Miss International held in Japan.

After her interview on Nepal 1 Television she was approached for a music video that was directed by Bhushan Dahal. And later on Dahal offered her video jockey position in Kantipur Television.

From then on Nisha never turned back. She played in various music videos, advertisements, television serials, and later in movies- some of which were instant hits.

Kollywood Flicks

She made her debut in Kollywood through Mission Paisa as a lead actress. This action pack movie provided the best platform that suited her robust figure and all the muscle looks to her hot body. Result– she was the most sought after heroin in the town.

During this five year time frame, she has completed 11 movies that include First Love, Naina Resham, Apwaad, Maya’s Bazar, Dhuwa Yo Nasha, Mero Valentine, Mission Paisa Reloaded, Sungavha, Padmini among others.

For her recent flick, Sungavha, that tried to picture the life of lesbians in Nepali community, Nisha had stayed with actual lesbians so that she could learn their way of life and could incorporate them in the character.

In future she looks forward to perform the role a real time Nepali women character with all the colours of life that an average Nepali women receives in the society.

KATHMANDU: Nepali high profile fashion designer Prabal Gurung once again prevailed at the New York Fashion Week as his Fall-Winter Collection dazzled the crowd, which included among others his own mother-Durga.

The new range of outfits that Gurung introduced in the show potrayed women in sexy warrior theme inspired from the recent invention of body armour for women, the Ukranian female vigilantes and pentagons recent improvement of women dress code, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

“It’s really about embracing femininity whoever you are” Prabal was quoted by the newspaper. “As far as I’m concerned, the more women are empowered, the better off we are. You can tell I’m a mama’s boy,” he was quoted saying jokingly by report.

Gurung was reported to have been hugging his mother after the show and shedding tears of joy as his mother joined him, younger son, for the first time in her life. With leading personality, like Mitchell Obama, already a huge fan of Gurung, it is sure that this guy is going to introduce more in the days ahead.

Film industry and gossips are two things we cannot detach. Lately a new gossip is being circulated in Nepal’s small film industry. Its about actress Sumina Ghimire and producer of her recent flick Nine O’Clock- Ramesh Sambedna.

Those near the couple term their relationship as ‘unnecessarily close’, and though they don’t express any explicit suggestion on any thing brewing between them, a recent fact has made them smile a mischievous smile.

The fact is that Ramesh flew off to one of Asia’s hottest tourist destination- Malaysia with Sumina. Well one might say, what is in that he might have gone there to promote his movie with his lead actress.

Yes, there is a point in that. But wait there is another fact that will make you smile too. Ramesh had told his team members that he is going to India and NOT malaysia.

More to it was the way Sumina started behaving with Ramesh as soon as they were inside the Tribhuvan International Airport. A witness said on conditions of anonymity that she was walking with her whole arms in Ramesh. Well of course, the witness did not see anything in Malaysia, far away from the maddening crowd in Nepal.

And yet another fact to counter the supposed claims is that the team members of the movie said that they don’t have any promotional plans or events in Malaysia and ruled out the possibility that the couple is promoting movies in Malaysia.

Some additional facts about their relationships. When Sumina recently bought a 7.5 bungalow in Kathmandu, rumours were rife that Ramesh had opened his pocket for her lead actress.

Some additional facts about Sumina: In her earlier movie Rang, Sumina had a very close relationship with producer Roshan Hamal and had managed to remain as a hot topic for gossips.
