KATHMANDU: As the opposition Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) as well as some lawyers were opposing the formation of the Chief Justice-led government, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has claimed that this was the only alternative to this time as such practice were made in Greece and Bangladesh too.

Addressing the mass meeting organized by the party on the occasion of the 18th People’s War in Khula Manch in the capital, the Maoist supremo also heavily come upon the leaders of Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist and other leaders including Chitra Bahadur KC. Dahal said Baidhya and his leaders were dogmatic and bookish while KC was merely a talkative and humorist leader. “Comrade, can you run a catapult? We opened machine guns and waged the People’s War,” Prachanda said.

“Where are the self acclaimed revolutionaries? The People’s War uprooted the 240 years monarchy,” Dahal aggressively came on rival communists.

Despite hardliner communist’s harsh criticism for quitting the path of revolution, Nepal’s Prime Minister and Vice-chairman of former rebel party UCPN (Maoist) today said that the party has not abandoned the aim of the people’s war.

The Prime Minister said, “We have shifted our style not the goals.”

Nepal’s Maoists had fought for a decade with the view to sabotaging the feudal monarchy and establish a communist regime in the Himalayan nation, killing nearly 15,000 people in the country.

The Prime Minister also said that party’s recently concluded seventh general convention has provided a new vigor and zeal in the party cadres to move ahead with unitedly, by quashing the disputes.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister said either the parties should be ready to form a CJ-led government or join his government to hold the fresh CA elections.

On a separate context, the Prime Minister has challenged the some legal practitioners to come for debate with the PM on each and every article of the Interim Constitution of Nepal. Prime Minister’s such remark has come at a time when some pro-UML legal practitioners asked the President Dr Ram Baran not to appoint CJ Khilaraj Regmi as the new Prime Minister as that would challenge the independence of judiciary.

Saying that republic, inclusion, secularism, federalism and major other achievements were the results of the People’s War, the Prime Minister threatened the opposition not to insult the people’s sacrifices.

At the program, seven leaders of the Rastriya Janamorcha including central secretary Ram Luintel and others joined the UCPN (Maoist).

Earlier, a large number of party cadres and well wishers had organized rallies in thoroughfares of the city changing party’s slogans.

Traffic system in the capital city was at the receiving end due to the rallies.

KATHMANDU: For being criticized by a section of media for his extravagancy and making many expenses in helicopter charters, Nepal’s Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has challenged such allegations saying that his party—the richest political party in the country—would pay all the cost incurred in his trips.

Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai who is also the vice-chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) said, “I am ready to exhibit all the bills that I spent in helicopters charters while visiting the party’s programs in the district. My party will pay all my expenses.”

Talking over phone to the commoners in a monthly program of state-owned Radio Nepal, the prime minister also criticized some media for being prejudiced and monolithic.

The Prime Minister who spent much of his time for making clarifications on his poor performances said his government failed to meet the people’s expectations due to lack of new budget and oppositions’ obstructions.

On a separate context, the Prime Minister said Commissioner of Kathmandu Valley Town Development Authority Keshav Sthapit was sacked for his ‘worst’ performance, not because he failed to ‘pay’ cash to Hisila, Prime Minister’s wife.

Sthapit has been saying he was sacked after he refused to pay a handsome amount to Hisila and her team.

“My government sacked him after he failed to work as per the government directives. He just ran after I/NGOs. He was sacked by the suggestions from the top level bureaucrats and all stakeholders,” he argued.
