KATHMANDU: Nepali born Australian businessman Shesh Ghale has announced his candidacy for the Non Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA)’s Chairman in the upcoming International Conference of the NRNA.

Ghale announced his candidacy for Chairman of the NRNA organizing a news conference here Thursday.

On the occasion Ghale said that he would prioritize safe migration of Nepalis, registration of NRNA and especial efforts for knowledge and capital investment of NRNs in Nepal.

Incumbent General Secretary Tenzi Sherpa and members Hitman Tamang and Ram Pratap Thapa have already announced their candidacies for the same post.

KATHMANDU: Nepal has been intensifying efforts to make it known to the world that Lord Buddha was born in Nepal. Backing this cause, the Non Residential Nepalese have declared to install a statute of Lord Buddha in the premise of International Criminal Court in Hague, Netherlands.

The idol will have inscription below it stating that the Lord Buddha was born in Nepal, Chairperson of NRNA International Coordination Council Jiba Lamichhane said while speaking at the conclusion of the Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the Association in Manila.

Lamichhane said that the NRNA-ICC was working in close coordination with Nepal’s foreign ministry and the Hague officials to install the statue within a month.

He said that the Association aimed to install the statue during the upcoming Europe Regional Conference of NRNA next month arguing that the measure will help in respelling misconception about the Buddha’s birth place.

The Conference concluded on Sunday issuing the Manila Declaration which includes issues related to the registration of NRNA, Identity Card to NRNs provided by the government, amendment of the statute of NRNA, problems faced by NRNs in Asia Pacific region, voting rights of NRNs and utilizing of remittance among others.

The meet was participated by over hundred NRNAs from 12 nations in the Asia Pacific Region.

Country member of the NRNA International Coordination Council, Sonam Lama donated the amount to install a 32 feet long stone statue of Lord Buddha in the temple’s premise.

The Muktinath Temple located in Mustang district is revered by both Hindus and Buddhist followers.

Though preliminary estimates show that the statute will cost around 20 million, Lama said that he released the amount as first installment.

Stating that he has vision to create a triangular pilgrimage destination for Buddhist and Hindu followers that includes Pashupatinath-Lumbini-Muktinath pilgrimages, he handed over the amount to the temple’s preservation authorities.

Lama announced the donation amid a press conference in Kathmandu that was attended by Yongdel Lama- Chairman of Muktinath Preservation and Development Trust.
On the occasion, Yongdel said that the statue will be one of tallest stone statute of Buddha in Nepal and added that it will take two years to complete the installation.

KATHMANDU: Non Residential Nepalese residing in the United Kingdom have urged Nepal government for not selling its London based embassy building.

NRN Association expressed its dissatisfaction with the government’s decision and urged the latter to repair the building instead.

President of the NRNA Global, Jiba Lamichhane claimed that the government’s argument that it was selling the building by forwarding lack of funds to repair it were not credible basis to sell the building, which he said was a historic asset.

Prior to NRNA, Former British Gurkha Association (GESO) has registered a writ petition at the Supreme Court against the decision.

The embassy building is situated in one of the most historic and elite area- Kesington Square – of London.

The government had decided to sell the building stating that it was not ready to repair the building.

KATHMANDU: The South Korean government has announced plans to recruit additional 3600 Nepalese workers to assist in its agricultural and industrial zone this year.

South Korea’s human resource development(HRD) made such announcements stating that the recruitment will be done through its Employment Permission System (EPS). 

A formal announcement in this regard is slated to be announced for May 29 later this year. However information posted on the department’s website has stated that along with Nepal, other seven countries will be also vying for the South Korean jobs.

Though these jobs are mostly controversial as more and more labor exploitation report keep pouring in from South Korea, nonetheless getting a job in that nation has been most sought after opportunity for unemployed Nepalese youths.

Ujbekistan, Timo Leste, Myanmar, Thailan, Indonesia, Phillipines and Mangolia will be competing in the KLT tests offered by the EPS department, Nepali newspaper Karobar Dainik reported on Wednesday.

As of 2013, of the total 2,600 Nepalese who had qualified for employment in South Korean farms, only 600 are left to join there. But some 9000 Nepalese who had qualified to work in industrial zone this year are still in the waiting list.

President of NRNA and coordinator of Philanthropic Project Taskforce Jiba Lamichhane and Chairman of NCC UK Kul Acharya jointly provided the bank cheque of the total amount to chairwoman of Action Work Nepal Radha Poudel at a program on Saturday.

On the occasion, Acharya said the NRN UK has decided to provide Rs 3.5 million to launch the philanthropic projects in Nepal. “This is the first installment of the assistance,” Acharya said. Chairwoman Poudel thanked the NRNA and NCC UK for their support to the Miteri Maternity Hospital and pledged full utilization of the fund.
