KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli Wednesday reiterated his commitment to the journey toward prosperity and added the government will overcome obstacles put against Nepal’s prosperity goals.

“The government is determined to overcome intentional barriers created against the journey of development and prosperity,” said PM Oli in his address to a special ceremony organized at the Army Pavilion Tundikhel on the occasion of the 70th National Democracy Day today.

“There are obstructions in the mega campaign. But such unwanted circumstances will not be allowed to block our journey toward prosperous Nepal,” he added.

“Although we have to a long way, our journey toward that end will continue and we will reach there eventually.”

“And the government is aware of such unwanted mentality that considers the mission toward prosperity meaningless”.

He reiterated the first year of the government formed after the 2017 elections as the foundation year and added: “Now the government is moving ahead by developing state structures as demanded by the constitution, implementing federalism and carrying out fiscal management and adjustment of laws and workforce. We are committed to building a prosperous Nepal on these bases. Results have started to be seen in terms of good governance and development.”

Extending best wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad, the prime minister described the Falgun 7, 2007 BS as a glorious day which marked the commencement of the new era.

“Today is the day when the society, politics and government system was freed from an autocratic oligarchy and a point when beautiful dawn had come about by removing a long period of darkness,” he said.

“The country has moved from poverty to prosperity, underdevelopment to development and mismanagement to a well-managed state. The seed of this campaign of the state had been sown 70 years ago.”

“The achievement between the 70-years period since the establishment of democracy in the country should be safeguarded.”

Remembering the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the relentless struggle in the past for democracy and for securing the democratic rights, the Prime Minister stressed that no one should forget the glorious history of the past democratic movements.

“Today is the day for resolving to the prosperity of the nation as desired by the people,” PM Oli exhorted.

According to him, the country has now moved ahead towards economic development and social transformation as the nation has managed to end the decade-long conflict by adopting a home-grown solution.

“Nepal has been identified in the world as the country that can solve its problems on its own. Nepal has expanded its identity in the international arena and Nepal has drawn the world’s attention,” PM Oli said adding that the country has now proceeded towards enhancing its prestige through the exercise of democratic rights and making the people’s desire for prosperity successful.

Stating that we have been practicing a new state structure, a new dispensation and a new constitution in a changed context, he said the situation, however, was not easy as replacing one government with the other.

He reiterated on the need of assessing the dissatisfaction coming from several sides, the systemic change, people’s aspirations and the institutional needs of the state during the time of prosperity campaign.

“The government’s responsibility is to banish unemployment and backwardness although the country has reached thus far by defeating autocratic and authoritarian regimes.”

“The government has moved ahead with plans to enter the development era. We have been on the path to strengthening and expanding democracy at people’s reach alongside economic development and social justice,” he said.

The government has set goals to uplift Nepal from the least developed country by 2022 and achieve sustainable development goals by 2030.

“The government is focused on implementing its responsibility for economic and social transformation.”

“And we cannot deny cooperation from neighboring countries to realize our goal”.

KATHMANDU: An emotional letter has been penned by acid attack survivor Muskan Khatun from her hospital bed. The letter written to Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli shares her pain of what she has been going through and urges the Oli government to enact stringent laws and takes action against her attackers.

The following text is a translation of what Mukan wrote,

Honorable Prime Minister, I am Muskan Khatun Ansari,

Namaste, I write this short letter to bring to your notice about the incident that I have been through and similar others who have gone through the pain of an acid attack. Previously the victims were Jenny Khadka, Sangita Magar, and had there been strict laws during that time or action taken against the culprit then I would probably not be in this hospital bed today.

Honorable Prime Minister, you have a 2/3rd majority government. You have the ability to give the death penalty to those involved in such a heinous crime. If I were in your place I would have given the death penalty to the attackers.

Please ensure this time that the attackers are severely punished so that in the future there are no further attacks on girls or women or anyone.

I have gone through extreme pain and anguish and I hope no one else would have to go through the same ordeals that I have faced.

It is also painful for my parents, as well as, every parent whose child has been a victim of an acid attack. The grief that mounts is unbearable. I sincerely hope that this time the attackers are severely punished.

I hope you understand my pain, and that such an incident should not happen again. No one should be in a hospital bed as a result of an acid attack. I hope that you will consider my request.

Thank you, our Prime Minister.
