Kathmandu, 24th September : The Government of India has provided NPR 1.54 billion to Nepal Government further fulfilling commitment towards post-earthquake reconstruction assistance.  Ms. Namgya Khampa, Deputy Chief of Mission handed over cheques amounting to NPR 1.54 billion to Mr. Sishir Kumar Dhungana, Secretary, Ministry of Finance of Government of Nepal towards post-earthquake reconstruction assistance

On 22nd September, 2020, Ms. Namgya Khampa, Deputy Chief of Mission of Embassy of India, handed over cheques worth NPR 1.54 billion (about INR 96 crore) to Mr. Sishir Kumar Dhungana, Secretary, Ministry of Finance of Nepal towards housing & school sector assistance under Government of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction commitment.

“India has committed US$ 150 million in grant and Line of Credit towards housing sector projects supported by the Government of India. With this handover, India has reimbursed about USD 72 million from grant to Government of Nepal for housing sector reconstruction. Out of Government of India’s commitment to rebuild 50,000 houses in Gorkha and Nuwakot districts, 92% of the houses have been completed.”-Mentioned in the Press Release issued by Indian Embassy here in Kathmandu.

Similarly, Government of India has committed support for reconstruction of 70 schools and 1 library under US$ 50 million grant assistance. Out of this, the first tranche of USD 4.2 million for ongoing schools was reimbursed to Government of Nepal.

KATHMANDU, May 29: The government has allocated Rs 141 billion budget for the post-earthquake reconstruction in its budget for the coming fiscal year 2019/20.

The budget presented by Minister for Finance, Dr. Yubraj Khatiwada, at the joint session of the Federal Parliament reads that Rs 58.73 billion has been allocated to complete reconstruction of private houses within the next fiscal year.

Similarly, the arrangement of Rs 1 billion has been made to complete the reconstruction of Dharahara within the coming fiscal year.

The budget has set a target to complete the reconstruction of heritages damaged by the earthquake.

The budget has adopted a policy to make a partnership with local levels in reconstruction.

Likewise, the arrangement of Rs 60 million has been made to each constituency area for local infrastructure development program.

The budget has also given continuity to the Tarai-Madhes prosperity program. RSS

KATHMANDU, May 22: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), the government body formed after the Gorkha earthquake to carry out post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation works, has started the process of developing an integrated settlement to shift vulnerable settlement of the five most-affected districts.

The 64th meeting of NRA’s executive committee held under the coordination of its Chief Executive Officer Prof Dr Govinda Raj Pokhrel decided to go with developing an integrated settlement in each five districts, worst affected by the disaster that had struck the country on April 25, 2015.

The meeting agreed to conduct the feasibility study, prepare a detailed project report and launch an infrastructure construction drive in this regard in collaboration with other organisations/agencies, according to NRA Spokesperson Yamlal Bhusal.

Earlier, a team comprising NRA representatives and geologists identified 112 settlement including Keraunja of Gorkha, Selang of Sindhupalchowk, Khalde of Rasuwa, Urleni of Nuwakot and Besimpa of Dolakha as the vulnerable zones after the quake. Under the first-phase, the NRA is implementing its plan as a pilot project in the above mentioned areas.

A safe location will be selected by a committee headed by the Chief District Officer of the respective district to shift the vulnerable settlement.

The issues relating to road, drinking water and electricity facilities, development of structure to control water-induced disasters and land acquisition will be addressed from the government-level to build an integrated settlement in cooperation with other organisations/ agencies. RSS
