KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and Chief Minister of the Bihar State of India Nitish Kumar discussed ways to resolve the problems of inundation caused as a result of the Koshi and Gandak dams during a meeting at the latter’s residence in Patna on Thursday.

In the two hour long meeting along with dinner organized in honour of NC President Koirala, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said as inundation is a common problem Bihar was ready to work together to resolve the problem, according to Koirala’s assistant Laxman Dhakal.

Matters relating to controlling trans-border crime were also discussed during the meeting.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said he hoped that Nepal takes the path to prosperity, stability and peace through the CA elections in November 19 and added that India was ready to extend necessary cooperation towards that end.

In response, the NC President said the CA election will be held in November 19 and urged for support in the security in the border area.

Earlier, NC President Koirala offered garlands at the statue of BP Koirala at the Golghar.

The NC President is returning Kathmandu from Delhi this afternoon.

KATHMANDU: The Indian leaders whom Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala had meetings in India on Tuesday have laid emphasis on the consolidation of democracy thereby holding the Constituent Assembly election on slated time in Nepal.

During the high level meetings, the Indian leaders suggested NC President Koirala for the political stability, peace and prosperity in Nepal, according to NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh who is accompanying President Koirala in the India visit.

In this connection, President Koirala met with Congress I Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. On the occasion, Chairperson Gandhi said India was for the consolidation of multi-party democracy in Nepal.

Quoting her, leader Singh said, “Democracy can be institutionalized only when the CA election is held on the slated date.”

On the occasion, President Koirala said the political parties, including the NC, in Nepal were making utmost efforts to involve the dissenting political parties in the CA election. They were for making the CA election a success, for it would let the country free from crisis.

During the meeting, issues as strengthening of the bilateral relations and the relations between the NC and Congress I was discussed, General Secretary Singh said, adding that leader Gandhi reminded the contribution NC leader BP Koirala and others made in the Indian struggle for freedom.

General Secretary Singh further said NC President Koirala invited Congress I Chairperson Gandhi to visit Nepal, and she wished to visit Nepal after the elections in India.

Another General Secretary Krishna Sitaula was also together with President Koirala during the meeting with leader Sonia Gandhi.

Similarly, President Koirala attended a lunch with Indian Minister for External Affairs Salman Khurshid where discussion was held on strengthening the two-country relations.

Minister Khurshi too stressed on the CA election on time in Nepal. He further said the Indian government was ready to extend help to Nepal for the CA elections.

President Koirala is to going to meet other leaders including the Chairperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said India wishes to see elections and new constitution along with a strong and stable democracy in Nepal.

Talking to reporters upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport following completion of his six-day visit to India on Friday, leader Deuba said India is ready to provide every possible support to further expanding the relations between the two countries.

“India wishes democracy, elections, stability and a new constitution in Nepal” he said.

Referring to his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Indian National Congress I Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the Indian Minister for External Affairs, the Foreign Secretary and other high-ranking government officials, and leaders of various political parties, leader Deuba described his visit as ‘very successful’.

He also said that India was willing to provide every possible support for the upcoming elections to the Constituent Assembly.

KATHMANDU: Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that India was willing to see a peaceful, democratic and prosperous country after conducting the CA election.

At a meeting with Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba today, the Indian Prime Minister said India was in favor of CA poll date announcement as early as possible.

NC leader who is in a six-day India visit held discussions with the Indian Prime Minister for 35 minutes.

During the meeting, Singh also said that India wants to see a robust and stable multi-party democratic system in Nepal. Singh also expressed confidence that political parties in Nepal would reach a deal in all contentious issues in constitution writing.

In response, lauding the India’s roles in the past including the signing of the 12-point agreement, Deuba expected same level of support in CA election too.

During the meeting, Indian government’s security advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, India Ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad, Chief Minister of India’s Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav from India’s side while NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi, Deuba’s wife Dr Arzoo and Charge de’ Affairs at Nepali Embassy, Delhi, Tirtha Wagle were present from Nepali side.
