SAPTARI: Property worth Rs 300 thousand was gutted by a fire that started from a firecracker exploded in course of Tihar celebration here last night.

The fire broke out at the house of Sibesh Singh at Himalaya Tol, Rajbiraj municipality-8 at 7 pm on Tuesday, Shorav Yadav, a local said. Singh’s entire house has been gutted in the disaster.

The fire destroyed cash, goods, utensils and household articles worth around Rs 300 thousand, police said. The fire was brought under control through the joint efforts of the locals and the police. It is said the fire engine did not arrive in time and hence the fire gutted the entire property. RSS

RAJBIRAJ, Sept 18: The voting began in a peaceful atmosphere in Saptari district of Province No 2.  As per the scheduled time, the voting began at 7:00 am today.

Enthusiastic, the voters came in line since 5:00 am and casted votes in a free and fair atmosphere.  Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav reached a local voting center of Ward No 2 of Rajbiraj municipality and used his voting right.

A social activist from Rajbiraj municipality-3, Sushil Lal Das, who was in line said, “I’ve come here to ensure my favorite candidate victorious in the local election being held in two decade’s gap.”

Chief District Officer of Saptari, Bhagirath Poudel, informed that security arrangement was smooth and the security monitoring in the voting centres and stations were on to avoid any untoward incident.

There are nine municipalities, and nine rural municipalities in the district, which is electing a total of 856 representatives. RSS

RAJBIRAJ, Aug 6: An explosion from a pressure cooker bomb hidden in a road depression at an inner road section of Surunga Municipality – 6 injured four police personnel travelling on a police van last night.

The bomb planted by an unidentified group caused partial damages to the van (Ba 1 Jha 7392) belonging to the Area Police, Kadarban, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Singh confirmed.

The bomb exploded as the van heading towards a village from the police station neared the road depression. Inspector Rajendra Yadav along with four police officers suffered injuries in the explosion. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lahan.

A total of 12 police personnel were on-board the vehicle at the time of the attack. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, according to District Police Office, Saptari. RSS
