CHITWAN, Feb 12: Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has said the people are disappointed by the government performance.

Speaking at a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union, Chitwan, on Tuesday, leader Poudel said people’s expectations from the two-thirds majority Communist government had been turned into disappointments.

He accused the government of losing pace. “The government activities have neither pace nor they are in accordance with the rule of law.” According to him, the main opposition is putting a close watch on government’s activities.

On a different note, he shared his views that party’s central committee office bearers and members should come after being elected from the ward-level and it was the decision of the Mahasamiti as well.

He was of the view of making new arrangements in regard with the leadership at the Nepal Students Union as the central committee office-bearers had already resigned from the post. RSS

PALPA, Jan 22: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ramchandra Poudel has said the present time is the right time for the government to prove its competency.

Speaking at a press meet in Tansen on Tuesday organized by the Nepal Press Union (NPU), Palpa chapter, the former deputy prime minister accused the (incumbent) government of keeping it busy in inaugurating projects undertaken by the previous governments and failing to utilize the given opportunity.

“Though there is a suitable time in the country for the government to work, such time is being wasted due to an arrogance of two-thirds majority.”

The incumbent government could not meet the people’s expectations for development, good governance and peace and security.

He vented ire at the government move to appoint the office bearers of the constitutional commissions in the absence of opposition party leaders.

Despite a big investment in education and health sectors, quality services for the people were still a far cry, he said, adding that the government was yet to lay its focus on quality service to the people. RSS

CHITWAN, April 21: Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel on Saturday accused the government of imposing totalitarianism, and being anti-federalist.

“Attempts are afoot to terrorize constitutional bodies. This indicates the government is advancing towards totalitarianism. Now Nepal is being entangled in monopoly of leaders,” he said while inaugurating national gathering and statute convention of the Nepal Livestock Technology Association.

He also suggested that the government should live up to promises doled out to the people during elections. He also wished the unification between the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Center) would take place soon.

The conference that will run until Sunday will discuss ways to run the Association in line with the federal setup, said the Association’s Central President Janak Rawal. RSS

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Nepali Congress leader Govinda Raj Joshi has filed his candidacy against senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel for the House of Representative election from Tanahu constituency-1.

Joshi registered his candidacy as an independent candidate at the election office since the party issued ticket to Poudel. The nomination filing for the second phase of election to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies (being conducted 128 constituencies of House of Representatives and 256 constituencies of State Assemblies in 45 districts) is underway. The second phase polls are scheduled for December 7.

Joshi has claimed that the party issued ticket to Poudel going against the sentiment of voters and party cadres.

At an interaction with NC frontline cadres on Saturday, senior leader Poudel stressed the urgency of NC victory in upcoming provincial and federal elections for the safeguarding of the nation and democracy.
The authoritarian character of the CPN-UML was a threat to democracy, he said, democracy in crisis would indicate the nation under threat.

Admitting that his party has come across several complications, Poudel underlined the need to develop a shared feeling among every leader and cadre that the party should win.

Leader Poudel urged the cadres to remain proactive in winning public confidence for the party victory in coming elections.

KATHMANDU, July 7: Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has stressed on planned development for the management of the budget, calling for prioritizing the management of human and nature also in the budget.

Speaking in the special hour during the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today, leader Poudel said that quality health services, education and employment opportunities should be expanded to places outside the Kathmandu valley to diffuse the population centered in Kathmandu valley and to attract them to cities outside the valley.

He demanded strict implementation of the policy that bars construction of big buildings on cultivable land.

“The people, not the leaders, should be kept in the center while formulating development plans,” he said, and urged on the government to bring development programs that fulfill the basic needs of the people and to take the government services and facilities to the doorsteps of the people.

He drew the attention of the government towards the local level representatives not been able to carry out works due to the lack of the related laws.

Stating that the talk of use of money to buy votes in the local level elections was heard, he said this tendency did not contribute to strengthen democracy. “We should end the tendency of making the elections costly and extravagant, and develop a system wherein people give their votes looking at the policy,” he said.

Political stability has been seen after the local level election and the door to economic development would be opened now, leader Poudel said, expressing the hope that the country would be able to make a big leap in economic development in 10 years.

“The tendency of some hydropower developers sitting on the licenses for years without constructing the hydropower projects should be ended and the available water resources utilized. The means and resources of the country should be utilized in the right way,” lawmaker Poudel said.

Stressing on the need of linking good governance with budget and plan as well as establishing corruption-free society, he said, “The CPN (UML) should also be flexible to address the demands of agitating parties and should help in constitution amendment for the wider acceptability of the new constitution.”

Lawmaker Ganesh Singh Thagunna drew the attention of the government to the incident of landslide at Dharchula of India on Thursday in which three people of Darchula were killed, and demanded the government to provide relief to the victim’s families.

Another lawmaker Ram Narayan Bidari demanded the government to carry out investigation into the dispute related to doctors at the Manmohan Memorial Hospital extracting the kidney of a patient while Anuradha Thapa Magar raised question that why the Education Ministry that circulated to celebrate Yoga Day, has not incorporated Yoga subject in curriculum.

Similarly, lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada complained that the government has not paid its attention in upgrading of roads in city areas as well as remote areas.

Rameshwor Phunyal said that national pride projects lack budget to complete the construction task on time and Melamchi Drinking Water Project should be completed on time. RSS
