KAHTMANDU, April 21: Leader of main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC), Ramesh Lekhak has said that the Nepali Congress will move ahead in a more consolidated way after the meeting of the central working committee (CWC) meeting.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Saturday, leader Lekhak said, “Nepali Congress central working committee meeting will resume from tomorrow. We are holding serious discussions of various issues including the reason behind the party’s unexpected defeat in the November 26 and December 7 House of Representatives and Province Assembly election.”

“It is normal for some disputes and conflicts to surface within the party. The CWC meeting will make considerable efforts to address them as well,” added Lekhak.

“After the CWC meeting the Nepali Congress will move ahead in a more consolidated way,” he expressed his confidence.

Lekhak further said that the CWC meeting will also finalize the issues for statute amendment, nomination of office bearers and Mahasamiti meeting.

He also said that date of General Convention was not the main agenda of the meeting. “We are focused on reviving the Nepali Congress party back to its popularity. There is no possibility of early Convention,” he said.

Deuba alone cannot be blamed for party’s poor election result: Lekhak https://nepalireporter.com/2018/02/46740 https://nepalireporter.com/2018/02/46740#respond Sat, 24 Feb 2018 07:13:35 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=46740 LekhakNepali Congress (NC) leader Ramesh Lekhak has argued that party president Sher Bahadur Deuba alone cannot be blamed for party's poor performance in recent House of Representative and Federal parliament elections.]]> Lekhak

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ramesh Lekhak has argued that party president Sher Bahadur Deuba alone cannot be blamed for party’s poor performance in recent House of Representative and Federal parliament elections.

The left alliance secured a landmark victory in the elections securing 116 [CPN-UML: 80 and CPN (Maoist Center): 36] seats under the first-past-the-post system. NC won 23 seats.

“It is party’s loss. The party should be responsible for the poor election performance. All the decisions were made in consultation with other leaders as well. Thus, it would be inappropriate to blame president Deuba alone for the election loss,” said Lekhak while taking to Rishi Dhamala at a radio program ‘Nepali Bahas’ on Saturday.

“Some may have less responsibility and some may have more. But, a single member cannot have all the responsibility,” he added.

He was of the view that the party needs to re-establish itself while managing internal disputes.

“After the unexpected result, one-sided debates criticizing Deuba is taking place within the party. But, it cannot lead the party to anywhere but destruction,” furthered Lekhak.

“We should all become responsible for party’s loss.”

Government will get full shape in the next few days, says NC’s Lekhak https://nepalireporter.com/2017/07/38332 https://nepalireporter.com/2017/07/38332#respond Sat, 15 Jul 2017 11:28:58 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=38332 Ramesh LekhakRamesh Lekhak, central member of the Nepali Congress has said that the government would be expanded in the next few days.]]> Ramesh Lekhak

KATHMANDU, July 15: Ramesh Lekhak, central member of the Nepali Congress has said that the government would be expanded in the next few days.

Speaking during an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Saturday, he said, “The cabinet expansion was slowed due to local level elections. We will give full shape to the government within two or three days.”

“We are currently under discussion regarding the expansion of the government. We have almost finalized the allocation of ministries. The name of the ministers will be recommended soon,” added Lekhak.

He further said that the ruling parties are holding talks with the Rastriya Prajantra Party (RPP) and the Federalist Socialist Forum Nepal so as to persuade them to join the government.

Leader Lekhak also expressed his confidence that the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) will participate in the local level election in Province 2 slated for September 18.

“The RJPN registered at the Election Commission to participate in the upcoming election including election in Province 2,” he said.

“The government is making every effort to address the concerns of RJPN. But we are shy of some votes to garner two-third majority in favor of the constitution amendment bill hence stalling the bill at the parliament.”

The ruling parties say that they have 392 lawmakers on their side and are shy of three more votes in favor. Currently, the legislature-parliament has 592 members and the bill needs 395 lawmakers to endorse the amendment proposal.

Meanwhile, the opposition parties need 198 lawmakers to reject the bill. But, they only have 193 lawmakers, and need five more votes to fail the proposal.

The Nepali Congress has 207 lawmakers and the CPN (Maoist Center) has 81. The Speaker cannot cast the vote. The RPP has already decided that all 37 lawmakers of the party will vote for the bill. During the first week of May, the government failed to amend the constitution as 10 lawmakers of the RPP remained out of contact.

Likewise, Rastriya Janata Party has 24 lawmakers, The Nepal Democratic Forum has 16, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal has 15 and CPN- United has 3 lawmakers who are in favor of the bill.

Samajwadi Janata Dal, Tharuhat Party, Khumbuwan Rastriya Morcha, Janajagaran Party Nepal, Akhanda Nepal Party and Janata Dal who have one lawmaker each at the House all are in favor of the amendment.

On the contrary, the main opposition party CPN-UML has 180 lawmakers. The CPN-ML’s 5 lawmakers, the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party’s 4 lawmakers, Rastriya Janamorcha’s 3 and Bauddhik Janatantrik Parisad’s 1 lawmaker are against the proposal.
