TILOTTAMA, Oct 11: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Kamal Thapa has said that his party decided to back the government for its continuity and to guarantee the upcoming elections of House of Representatives and Province Assemblies. The elections are scheduled for November 26 and December 7.

Speaking during a face-to-face program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal in Butwal on Wednesday, he said “The Prime Minister is committed to holding the elections on the announced date.”
“But the planned polls have become uncertain with the formation of left alliance,” he said adding, “Thus RPP decided to support the government to ensure majority government and timely election.”

“Our participation in the government would not only save the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government but also ensure elections,” added Thapa.

As Deuba is mulling over the possibilities of cabinet reshuffle, Nepali Congress leaders have been consulting with legal experts and smaller parties so as to find out legal and political consequences of sacking Maoist ministers. But the Election Commission and left parties (CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) who announced alliance last week) have warned the government against reshuffling the cabinet saying that it would be against the constitution and election code of conduct. Deuba will have to take smaller parties into confidence after removing Maoist ministers.
