KATHMANDU, March 7: Lawmaker Hridayesh Tripathi has argued that the court had done injustice to Resham Chaudhary, who is accused of 2015 Tikapur massacre, by sentencing him to life imprisonment.

Kailali District Court on Wednesday slapped Chaudhary and ten others with life imprisonment on charge of attacking the security force attempting to enforce security on August 24, 2015 in Tikapur, Kailali killing seven police officers and a two-year old baby.

“The court’s verdict on lawmaker Chaudhary is injustice,” said Tripathi speaking during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Chaudhary, who then was fleeing and had filed his candidacy through a representative, had won won the House of Representative election from Kailali constituency held on December 7, 2017.

As said by a former chief justice today morning that our court gives verdict but does not do justice, the Kailali District Court has done the same.

Chaudhary had presented himself before the court on February 26 last year. He had taken oath of office and secrecy on January 3 while his case was still sub-judice in the court. After swearing-in he was taken back to jail.

Since the court has accused him guilty on murder charges, Chaudhary, as per the law, will automatically lose his position as lawmaker.
