KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The death toll of Trishuli bus accident that took place this morning at Salangghat of Benighat Rorang rural municipality-3 in Dhadhing has reached five.

The ill-fated bus (Na 6 Kha 7469) fell some 100 meters down from the road and plunged into the Trishuli River.

Three had died on the spot, District Police Office, Dhading chief Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Badiwar said. They have been identified as Ajay Das, 35, Bijay Kurmi, 25 while the identity of the third is yet to be ascertained.

Later two bodies were retrieved from the river near Muglin, according to the police. Around a dozen passengers are feared still missing.

16 people were rescued alive and are being treated at different health facilities.

Dhirendra Thakur, 40, of Sitamadi, India, Bijay Yadav, around 32, of Kabilash rural municipality-4, Pramod Kunwar, 28, of Haripur rural municipality-4, assistant driver Sikindra Kumar Mahato, 16, of Malangawa municipality-11, Kush Ranjam Mahato, 21, of Bishnu rural municipality-5, Shweta Rauniyar, 16, of Brahmapuri, driver Jeevan BK, 40, of Haripur, Rakesh Baitha of Brahmapuri-6 and two who are yet to be identified are under treatment at the Kathmandu-based Trauma Center.

The police preliminary investigations suggested the accident happened as the driver fell asleep.

Some have been already discharged from the Gajuri Hospital Dhanding.

They are Dinesh Thakur, 36, of Hamahariya municipality-8, Sarlahi; Bhogendra Chaudhary, 34, of Haripur-7, Sarlahi; Rahul Mahato, 15, of Aurahi rural municipality-7, Sarlahi; Amrit Lama of Haripur rural municipality-9, Bhupendra Kumar Yadav, 31 of Kabilashi Lathi rural municipality-6, Sarlahi; Bijay Raya Yadav, 33, of Kabilasi rural municipality-4 and Bhirendra Thakur, 42, of Panaulithana-4, Sitamadi, India.

Some of the passengers survived the accident by swimming to the shore.

Two of them were rescued only at 7 am the following morning from a gorge on the river banks. Thirty-nine passengers got on the bus (Na 6 Kha 7469) from Malangawa and two from Haripur, said the transport committee.

All the bus seats were packed and four other passengers sat on stools, and four were in the cabin except the buss staffs, said Samim Raj Ansari, a survivor of the accident, who took ‘B’ 16 seat on the ill-fated bus. All of them are said not to have booked seats.

The transport committee confirmed that it registered 38 passengers on the bus. Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and volunteers from Red Cross Nepal involved in the rescue efforts. RSS

TANAHU, Aug 4: At least 13 people have been injured when a bus met with the accident in Bandipur rural municipality-5, Dhaw in Tanahu district along Prithivi Highway.

The bus (Ba 4 Kha 5988) en route to Beni from Narayanghad lost speed control and slid down the roadway

The injured have been receiving treatment in Laxmi Hospital Dumre bazaar, according to the police.

Among the injured passengers, Hastamaya Gurung, 70, of Bandipur rural municipality and Sabita Nepali, 21, of Aabukhireni rural municipality are in critical condition.

RAJBIRAJ, Aug 14: The Saptari district has seen recurring road accidents.
As many as 320 road crashes occurred in different parts of the district during the fiscal 2074/75. Some 79 had reportedly lost their lives to road mishaps whereas 189 sustained severe injuries and 344 minor injuries during the period.

In the last fiscal, 37 trucks, 53 buses, 50 cars and jeeps, 23 tractors, five tempos and 244 motorbikes had met with accidents, according to District Traffic Police Office Chief Inspector Sunil Kumar Shrestha.

Among the major causes behind the recurring road accidents include excessive flow of vehicles, congested East-West Highway, lack of alternative road, high speed of vehicles, alcoholic driving, Shrestha added.

It may be noted that 53,624 drivers had faced music for violating traffic rules in the last fiscal year alone. Revenue amounting to Rs 31.45 million was raised from the action for violation of traffic rules.

Some 51 had died in road accidents in the fiscal 2072/73 BS while the death toll from road mishaps was 22 in the year 2071/72 BS. RSS

PARBAT, Aug 6: At least 16 people were injured, six critical, when a passenger bus slid off the road and fell some 30 meters at Betani of Modi Rural Municipality-6 in the district along the Pokhara-Baglung road on Monday.

Of the injured, six in serious condition have been referred to Pokhara-based Gandaki Zonal Hospital, while the remaining are receiving treatment at the district hospital, said Inspector Suraj Khatri.

The bus driver has been taken under control, and investigations were on, he said. The bus (Ga 1 Kha 5598) was heading to Mustang from Pokhara when the accident occurred.

BHAKTAPUR, July 25: One person died and three others were injured in a road accident that took place at Chardobato of Madhyapur Thimi-4 last night.

Ramesh Raj Raut,47, a resident of Sindhuli and currently living in local Surya Binayak died when the car he was driving hit the road divider along the Araniko Highway. Seriously injured Raut died during treatment at the Nagarik community hospital in Ghatthaghar, police said.

Rabin Raut,18, the son of Roshan who was injured in the incident is undergoing treatment at Madhyapur hospital.

Meanwhile, a motorcycle coming from the same direction was hit by the car after it hit the road divider. In the incident, motorcycle rider Bishnu Bahadur Shrestha,31, and pillion rider Rajan Shrestha,33, of Ramechap were injured. They are undergoing treatment at Nagarik hospital.

Preliminary police investigation showed that Ramesh was driving under the influence of alcohol when he hit the road divider and subsequently the motorcycle. RSS

BHAKTAPUR, July 16: A person was killed and another injured when a bus with number plate Ba 4 Kha 1991 en route to Kathmandu from Bhaktapur collided with a bike Ba 85 Pa 9928 heading towards bhaktapur at Ghhataghar intersection along  the Araniko highway on Saturday night.

The 17 – year – old bike rider, Ashim Shrestha, of Bangalamukhi of Lalitpur died in course of treatment following the accident while pillion rider, Iku Joshi, was seriously injured. She is undergoing treatment at the B & B Hospital, Gwarko.

The bus driver Ram Kumar Mahat is under custody at the Metropolitan Police Circle Thimi, said Sub Inspector Bikal Bhattarai of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD).

BAITADI, July 7: As many as five persons were injured when a bus met with an accident at Saatbhanj Gokuleshwor stretch of Mahakali highway Friday morning.

The injured people have been identified as bus driver Ramdatta Bhatta, 24, of Surnaya – 3, Baitadi, bus staffer Lokesh Bohara, 18, of Doti Gaura, bus staffer Bharat Bista of Jogbudha – 2, Dadeldhura, Hari Singh Karki, of Dogdakedar – 7, Baitadi and Deepak Luhar, 17, from the same locality, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Heramba Sharma of District Police Office, Baitadi.

The injured people were referred to Dadeldhura for treatment from Patan Primary Health Centre.

The bus (Ba 3 Kha 5175) en route to Ganna from Kathmandu fell some 200 metres below the road at 3 am near Dharamghar of Surnaya – 3. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

Inebriated husband Sundar Khadka, 37, of Goshwara VDC-5 of Lamjung district killed his wife Sushila Khadka, 35, over a minor dispute, said the District Police Office Parsa.

The couple had been living in Birgunj in ourse of their employment. Husband Khadka is working as a security guard in Sundar Steels Factory.

Two women dead in road mishap

Meanwhile, two women were killed and other three sustained serious injury in a road mishap that took place in Panchmile India nearby Pashupatinagar last night.

The two deceased are the members of Gorkhaland movement, which is being waged in India to push a demand for autonomous state.

Vice-chairperson of Janamukti Nari Morcha, Mirik Area, Anjana Basnet and its central committee member Bindu Tolangi died in the accident that occurred while they were on the way back to Nepal from Darjeeling, confirmed Area Police Office, Pashupatinagar.

The vehicle they were travelling had fallen 300 meters down from the road. The seriously injured are being treated.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the Manipal Teaching Hospital. The bus with the registration number Ga 1 Kha 4330 was heading towards the Harihar cave. A team of foreigners who arrived here to provide financial assistance to the Bhalam Primary School were on a trip to the cave.
