KATHMANDU, May 27: Rastriya Prajatantra Party has decided to support the constitution amendment bill that seeks an amendment to the Schedule-3 of the constitution to update the Nepal map in the national emblem as per the revised administrative map. The new Nepal map released on May 18 incorporates the territories of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura.

A meeting among the Chairs Kamal Thapa, Pashupati Shumsher Rana and Dr. Prakash Chandar Lohani decided to support the amendment proposal, according to a press release issued by RPP Central Secretariat.

The bill was scheduled to be presented in today’s parliament meeting for discussion, but the plan was withdrawn from the business schedule in the last minute as per the request of the government. The government is planning to pass the bill within one week of its presentation.

Law Minister Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe had registered the amendment proposal on Friday.

The bill was not included in the schedule today since the main opposition party Nepali Congress is yet to decide on the matter while the Samajbadi Janata Party has pressed the government to include its own long-standing demand of the constitution amendment.

Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has urged all the political parties representing the parliament to pass the bill unanimously since it is the matter of national integrity and sovereignty.

The bill needs two-third majority to be endorsed.

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Majority of the RPP leaders speaking at the party’s central working committee meeting on Thursday noted that the alliance forged with NC was the major reason behind the party’s loss in the recent federal and provincial elections.

It may be noted that the party won one seat to the House of Representatives based on an electoral alliance reached with the CPN-UML in the eastern region.

They also reasoned that the party failed to cross the minimum threshold as it had fielded its candidates in only five of the 165 constituencies, according to party spokesperson Bhuvan Pathak. So far 58 leaders have spoken in the meeting that began on Wednesday and will continue tomorrow as well.

Division in the party and internal strife, the decision of the party to join the present government were also pointed out as reasons for the defeat. RSS

KATHMANDU, July 18: About a dozen dissatisfied lawmakers of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has demanded that the government must first fulfill some prior requirements concerning the constitution amendment proposal before the bill is put to vote. They have warned that they will not vote in favor of the bill unless done as demanded.

Talking to Reporters’ Club Nepal on Tuesday, Lawmaker Resham Lama said, “We are seeking two revisions in the currently tabled constitution amendment bill.” Lama however argued that they were not against the amendment of the constitution.

The unhappy RPP lawmakers have sought revision in the provision regarding citizenship and province delineation included in the amendment proposal.

They have demanded change in the proposal to grant naturalized citizenship as per the federal law after a foreign woman is married to a Nepali nation.

“If a foreign woman gets married to a Nepali man, she should wait as much time to get a Nepali citizenship as a Nepali woman will likely take to get a foreign citizenship when she gets married to a foreigner,” said Lama.

On question of the province demarcation issues, it has been demanded that the change in the boundary of provinces should be allowed only in consent of the two-third majority of lawmakers of the province concerned.
