The New South Wales Police have arrested Sagar Bhattarai, the driver of fatal Cooma car crash at Sydney Airport on Friday night while trying to leave the country, according to reports.

Five Nepali students were travelling to Snowy Mountains from Syndey in grey Mazda 6 when the car left the road, clipped a small tree, rolled and slid about 160 meters before landing on its roof near Rose Valley Road, Bunyan along the Monaro Highway in Southern New South Wales on June 28.

Samikshya Subedi, 22, a student of Queensford College and Gopal Bhandari, 21 were killed on the spot.

22-year-old Bhattarai, 19-year-old Ashwin Kandel and 20-year-old Sangeet Devkota, 20 suffered head lacerations and were discharged after receiving treatment at the hospital. Kandel was discharged a day later from Cooma hospital while Bhattarai and Devkota received treatment at Canberra Hospital.

Samikshya Subedi, 22, a student of Queensford College and Gopal Bhandari, 21 were killed on the spot.

Bhattarai, Ashwin Kandel, 19 and Sangeet Devkota, 20 suffered head lacerations.

Police described the scene as “horrendous” and said it was surprising the three survivors had not been more seriously injured.

Bhattarai was stopped at the airport following a week-long investigation and taken to Mascot Police Station where was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, among other offenses, reported ABC news.

He was refused bail and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on September 27.

KATHMANDU, July 30: Samikshya Subedi, 22 had live-streamed a part of her road trip from Sydney to Snowy Mountains while traveling with her friends before the grey Mazda 6, driven by her friends, crashed on the Monaro Highway at Rose Valley near Cooma, southern New South Wales in Australia on early Sunday morning. They were on vacation.

Subedi, a student of Queensford College, Sydney and Gopal Bhandari—believed to be in his 20s—were killed in the crash while three others were injured.

Subedi in the back seat was thrown meters from the car after it clipped a small tree and rolled and slid about 160 meters while Bhandari in the front seat also died at the scene, reported ABC News Australia.

The driver had lost control while trying to avoid kangaroo or rabbit, according to one of the survivors. The car rolled before landing on its roof.

Among the three injured, Ashwin Kandel, 19, sustained minor injuries and was discharged from the Cooma Hospital on Monday. He returned to Sydney.

The two other injured Sagar Bhattarai and Sangeet Devkota are undergoing treatment at Canberra Hospital, Canberra.

The 10-minute live stream shows Subedi singing and dancing merrily with her friends before the accident.

Friends and family have poured their hearts out on social media, with more than and 76 K views on the video showing Subedi’s final moments.
