KATHMANDU, June 24 :Youths planted rice on the street to protest delay in the maintenance of the road along the Bhardaha-Rajbiraj road section at Tilathi Koiladi rural municiplaity-8, Topa in Saptari.
A section of agitating youths demonstrated protest on Tuesday for the concerned authorities turning deaf to carry out necessary maintenance of the road in shambles.
Kaushal Yadav, a youth from the same ward, said the road becomes dusty in dry season and muddy ion the rainy season in lack of maintenance.
“The local and federal governments did not show any concern to the maintenance of deteriorating road for over one and half years. So they resorted to plant paddy on the road to protest the inaction of authority”, he added.
The road has witnessed recurrent trend of accidents when the authorities do not show any interest to improve road condition. (RSS)

SAPTARI, Sept 15: The Kanchanrup municipality has been declared a disaster-hit zone after many people were found infected with the Swine Flu and Hong Kong Flu virus.

An emergency meeting of the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee, Saptari took the decision after samples sent to the Epidemiology and Epidemic Control Unit in Kathmandu were confirmed positive, according to Mayor Basant Mishra.

People suffering from cough and fever in the municipality area were found to be carrying the H1N1 (Swine flu) and H3N2 (Hong Kong flu) virus. Of the 24 samples sent to Kathmandu, one person was found suffering from Swine flu and 10 from Hong Kong flu, according to chief of district public health office, Saptari Niranjan Prasad Yadav.

Five people have died so far, including Bhalsardevi Sardar,60, of ward no. 4, Dipbash Basnet,14, Kishore Ram,14, and Amod Kumar Ram,14, of ward no. 7 in the municipality and eight-year-old Mahaful Alam of Mahadeva rural municipality. However, it is not yet confirmed that the deaths were due to the virus, Yadav said. RSS

RAJBIRAJ, Feb 4: As many as 900 flood-affected families have been provided with various relief materials at Sakarpura of Tilathi Koiladi rural municipality in Saptari district on Saturday.

The relief goods were distributed to these families under the flood-affected Support Program run in partnership of the Government of Nepal, China Aid, UNDP and Sabal Nepal.

Prameshwar Jha of Sabal Nepal said each family was given Supanet (mosquito net treated with mosquito repellent chemical), cooking stove, blankets, water filter, big bucket, soap and brush among other materials.

Thousands of houses in the settlement were swept away by massive flood in August last year.

Meanwhile, the Dharmi Halfa Women Development Club, a local NGO, distributed warm clothes to 101 helpless and disabled people living in destitution and vulnerable to cold at Rajbiraj Municipality-13 on Saturday. The warm clothes were provided with the support of Help Nepal Network, Club president Surya Narayan Yadav said. RSS

RAJBIRAJ, Nov 1: The UML district youth leaders have begun a fast-unto-death starting Tuesday, expressing their dissatisfaction over the decision taken by the party to share seats for the election to the House of Representatives from Saptari.

District party members Durga Nand Thakur, Akhilesh Jha, Salim Ryan Miyan and ANNFSU district chair Lalit Rajak began the hunger strike. They have reasoned that it was wrong for the party who holds a good ground in the district to share seats with the Maoist center under the left alliance.

The local leaders are staging the hunger strike at the UML district office premises.

They have demanded that the district’s recommendation to nominate central member Suman Raj Pyakurel from constituency no. 1 should stand. The party leadership however gave the seat to MC, which has chosen Ashok Kumar Mandal (Amar) for the constituency. Mandal was elected to the second Constituent Assembly from erstwhile constituency no. 2 of the district. RSS

RAJBIRAJ, Oct 18: A Nepali migrant worker was killed in a road accident in the Gulf state – Qatar.

He is 27-year-old Bimalesh Mandal of Tilathi Koiladi rural municipality -4, Saptari district, according to a local Shailendra Singh.

Singh said Mandal was hit by an unidentified vehicle and was pronounced dead on the spot.

Mandal had gone to Qatar in connection with employment six months back through the Ali Overseas, Itahari. Mandal’s family has urged the bodies concerned to facilitate in bringing his body home.

RAJBIRAJ, Sept 13: The local authorities are tightening the security in the district in view of the forthcoming 3rd phase of local polls the government announced for September 18.

Saptari’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Singh said check posts have been set up at various locations along the Nepal – India border, major roads and points in Rajbiraj and other places as part of the heightened security measures.

Police have also mobilized dogs of German shepherd breed type with specialized training on detecting drugs and explosives to shore up the security.

Around 4,000 Nepal Police and 2,000 Armed Police Force (APF) personnel have been mobilized in the district to make sure the elections are held peacefully and without incidents of vote rigging, SP Singh added.

Saptari district has 295 voting stations under 10 local levels. The authorities have designated 207 voting stations as highly sensitive and 88 as sensitive. The district has 331, 079 registered voters including 170,888 men, 160,770 women and 21 members of the third gender. RSS

SAPTARI, Sept 8: All attention of the local administration has now been focused on election security with the conclusion of the filing of nominations for the third round local-level elections.

The third round local-level election is taking place in eight districts of Province -2 on September 18.

In this connection, out of the 295 polling centers in the district, the District Security Committee has identified 207 polling stations as highly sensitive and 88 as sensitive in terms of security. The committee categorized the polling centers in terms of security risk based on confidential information it received and security assessment, it is stated. The district administration has also made arrangements for security accordingly.

Among the highly sensitive polling centres, some lie within the municipalities and some others in the Rural Municipalities bordering with India. There are nine municipalities and nine rural municipalities in Saptari district.

Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey said arrangements have been made for the security of the voting centers after carrying out onsite visit and an analysis of the latest developments as well as the overall security situation.

CDO Pandey said besides Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force, the Nepalese Army will also be mobilized for the election security. The District Police Office is preparing to mobilize 4,000 security personnel on election duty. RSS
