KATHMANDU, May 14: Days after Nepal Communist Party (NCP) standing committee member Satya Narayan Mandal and Nepali Congress leader and former minister Ram Krishna Yadav engaged in a heated exchange of dialogue which almost went out of control, the television talk show Janata Janna Chahanchan, broadcast live on Prime Times television, heated again as the leaders of the ruling party and opposition party were involved in another wrangle on Monday evening.

The Communist and Congress leaders have always scuffled, trying to prove each other wrong by blaming one another. The same trend continued in the television studio as well, as the conversation between NCP leader Suman Raj Pyakurel and NC leader Mahendra Yadav saw heated exchanges throughout the show. This time, the show was totally under control and more dignified.

Pyakurel and Yadav were invited to the television talk show to discuss the upcoming budget for the fiscal year 2019/20 the government is set to unveil on May 29 (Jestha 15), why the federalism has weakened and other various contemporary issues.

Talking on the program, Pyakurel said the government has intensified the development projects but Yadav was in complete disagreement with Pyakurel. “The government has failed to accomplish even a single development project during its one-and-half-year tenure,” Yadav said.

The topic then shifted to the controversial Media Bill, the government is preparing to endorse, which proposes confiscation of media equipment and fine up to Rs 10 million and sentence up to 15 years in jail for media person who is found publishing offensive contents.

NC leader Yadav said that the government is restricting media and press stating that press freedom was fully guaranteed when Nepali Congress was in the government.

Pyakurel argued that the proposed Media Bill is under consideration in parliament. He then added that the opposition should play a role in the development projects brought by the ruling party rather than accusing the NCP to attempting to impose totalitarianism. He further argued that some of the development works such as roads are the continuation of Panchayat system. “It does not mean that is the not Panchayat,” he added.

Yadav said Pyakurel is telling a big lie. He said KP Oli’s party (then ML) voted against multiparty saying “referendum is betrayal”. But Pyakurel said Yadav does not know anything about the movement against the Panchayat because he was a just a child then.

Yadav responded saying he was a teenager but was in jail. “But we never joined hands with monarch like communist leaders,” he added.

“Even Prime Minister KP Oli was a supporter of the monarch,” he said.

“Thus I conclude, the communist party is theoretically against the democracy and multiparty system,” he added.

“K P Oli served 14 years in jail as following the signal from the king,” he accused.

“We thought Oli is a great leader. But, after he came to government we have realized he is not a nationalist leader.”

“He threw Nepali national topi and wore Indian topi while welcoming Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Janakpur. He feels ashamed to pronounce the word ‘Jay Nepal’.”

“After he came to the government he has removed the duplicate mask of nationality.”

“Press should be free, not dignified.”

In response, Pyakurel after requesting Yadav to keep silent and listen to him said the NCP always says “China..China”.

“First of all, I am not a Chinese. I am a Nepali.”

Yadav interrupted saying, “Yes, of course, your party is Chinese.”

“Wrong”, Pyakurel objected.

“How? Your party has Chinese principle,” Yadav fumed.

Pykurel argued, “Wrong again! Did you bring democracy? Did you bring multi-party democracy?”

“Then why do you write Maoism, Lenin?” Yadav asked.

“No we don’t,” Pyakurel said.

“What is UML? Isn’t it Marxism? Isn’t is Leninism? Where are they from?” Yadav argued.

“Don’t you follow Gandhi principle,” Pyakurel replied. “Don’t talk nonsense.”

“Nepali Congress is BP Koirala’s party,” said Yadav.

“NCP is Madan Bhandari’s party…Pushpa Lal Shrestha’s party…Manmohan Adhikari’s party,” Pyakurel responded.

“Then remove the photo of Karl Marx and Lenin from the officer,” Yadav said.

“Your party has no shame. Don’t you feel ashamed to speak a lie,” he expressed discontent.

“Speak properly…choose your words properly…” Pyakurel said.

“Why don’t you let me speak. I was speaking. I remained silent when you were speaking…”

“Isn’t your party’s name ML?” Yadav interrupted.

“Will you let me talk or not?” Pyakurel said.

“Yes, I will,” said Yadav adding, “When your party learns to say Jay Nepal… when your party proudly says this is Nepal’s communist party….”

The conversation had shifted into an intense argument by then and continued throughout the show while Dhamala enjoyed the debate carefully handling the guests. Watch more in the video below:

KATHMANDU, May 11: The famous television talk show Janata Janna Chahanchan live broadcast on Prime Times Television on Friday evening was full of drama and almost went out of control after the guest leaders of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) engaged in a super-heated argument.

Host Rishi Dhamala invited NCP standing committee member Satya Narayan Mandal and NC leader and former minister Ram Krishna Yadav in the live talk show to discuss the upcoming budget for the fiscal year 2019/20. The discussion was supposed to be focused on the proposal which Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada presented in the National Assembly on Friday afternoon, seeking discussion on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill for the upcoming fiscal year.

However, the talk show turned nasty from the beginning after both leaders started accusing one another’s party of their dismal works and short achievements. The leaders came heavy on each other shouting furiously, frequently stood from their respective seats and almost engaged into brawl throughout the show—the debate turned so intense that Mandal almost left the program even warning to boycott the show.

Host Dhamala, who is also the President of Reporters’ Club Nepal and also the host of Nepali Bahas at Nepali Radio Network, had a hard timing cooling the indignant leaders.

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: UML leader and Province 2 coordinator Satya Narayan Mandal said that his party would still become the largest party in the third round election despite trailing behind in third position.

Vote counting in province 2 is underway. Nepali Congress party is leading the election with 31 leads and two wins, while UML has won in four local units with 17 leading.

“Nepali Congress, Maoist Center and other political parties have spent billions of rupees for the purpose of election. They have organized feasts days and night. Everyone has stood against the UML here in province 2. They have forged alliance from ward to ward,” said Mandal while talking to Rishi Dhamala at a radio program Nepali Bahas broadcast through Nepali Radio Network.

“They have brainwashed voters’ mind telling that UML is an anti-Madhes party. That’s why UML is performing poor in the election,” added the former Youth and Sports Minister.

“But I still believe we will become number one party because people trust us,” he added.
