All the vehicles have remained off the road and while factories and markets are also closed. Schools and colleges in the district are also closed due to the banda. The front has enforced the shutdown to press for the fulfillment of their 16 points demands.

Vehicles have stayed off the roads and the market and factories, and schools and colleges are closed due to the banda. Today’s banda is called after the administration did not release party cadres though it was given ultimatum until 5:00 pm yesterday to release them, said Jit Narayan Shrestha, Nepali Congress District Secretary.

Pramish Rai and Yam Bahadur Karki were arrested on the charge of assaulting a Nepali driver who was driving a vehicle bearing the Indian number plate in Bharatpur, Chitwan.

They were arrested three days back. Realizing the Islam festival Id, vehicle carrying Muslims people are not obstructed, said the party.

The people of Bidur Municipality Ward No. 6 have called a district-wide banda or general strike since Tuesday in protest against the government´s move to settle the landslide victims of local Kimtang to Khampa Camp in the municipality.

A normal life in the district headquarters Bidur has been affected due to the banda since Tuesday. The general strike has hit life in the neighbouring district Rasuwa also.

Transport, schools, colleges and markets are closed due to the general strike called by the Bidur Municipality Save Khampa Camp Land Struggle Committee.

The locals´ protest comes after the District Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee last Friday proposed the land at Khampa Camp at Chandipokhari as an alternative land for relocating the Kimtang landslide victims. It is said 408 families in Kimtang have been displaced due to a huge landslide.

The strike enforces are demanding to reverse the transfer of employees of the District Hospital, Khandbari, and said that the strike would continue until their demand was met.

They organised the district bandh for an indefinite period after police opened the lockout carried out by them at the District Hospital demanding stopping of transfer of employees.

Schools and colleges, transport, markets, factories and enterprises have been affected the most. 

Similarly, vehicles are stranded at the Mudhesanischare bazaar due to the general strike.

Vehicular movements, schools, markets and industries have closed in the districts.

The Committee has demanded a fair probe into the murder of Kamlari Srijana Chaudhary and proper management of the Kamlari, identity cards, among others.

The committee has warned to continue the banda until and unless their demands are addressed.

However, the Committee has withdrawn the general shutdown in the districts of Tarai from today.

KATHMANDU: The general shutdown enforced by the Sanghiya Limbuwan Rajya Parishad and other Limbuwan ethnic organizations affiliated to the Limbuwan Forum has thrown the normal life out of gear in the nine districts in the eastern region.

The Parishad and other Limbuwan ethnic organizations have enforced the banda calling for the adoption of a fully proportional system in the upcoming Free Students Union elections at all the universities.

Transport services, schools and colleges and markets in all the nine districts of the east are closed due top the banda.

The banda has impacted life in Sankhuwasabha, Terhathum, Dhankuta, Sunsari, Morang, Jhapa, Ilam, Taplejung and Panchthar districts.

Meanwhile, normal life in Koshi hilly districts has been affected today due to the Banda called by the Federal Students Union, Limbuwan, in nine districts east of Arun River.

No long and short route vehicles plied due to the Banda along the Koshi Highway.

The students who have been putting forth demands for fully proportional electoral system in free students union (FSU) elections, called the Banda, as the Tribhuwan University did not listen to their demand.

The Banda threw life out of gear in Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Terathum and Sankhuwasabha districts, where local industries, educational institutions and businesses are closed.

The Limbuwan Students in a communiqué has also announced Banda in nine districts east of Arun on June 6.

KATHMANDU: Normal life in 22 districts of southern plain is partially affected due to a strike called by the Rajendra Mahato-led Nepal Sadhbhawana Party.

However, the southern plain districts with dense settlement of hilly people including Jhapa, Biratnagar, Sunsari, Chitwan, Rupandehi and others are not affected by the general shutdown, our representatives report.
The number of vehicles plying on the road is sparse while only few shops have opened.

The party enforced the general strike against police misbehave with Mahato at Shanti Batika in the capital where Mahato was sitting for a hunger strike demanding the government declare the CA poll date.

Meanwhile, the banda enforcers set a truck on fire in Sarlahi district. The truck (Na 2 Kha 6333) was carrying sanitary goods from Birgunj to Mahottari, police said.

BIRGUNJ: Normal life in southern plains of the country is crippled from early this morning due to a shutdown enforced by Sadbhavana Party putting forth different 10-point demand.

The party has demanded immediate announcement of the CA polls date. The hardest hit from the general strike are people belonging to Birgunj and surrounding areas. With the long-route and short-route vehicles brought to a complete standstill, passengers have to suffer much being stranded on the way to their destination.

However, the shutdown has no effect in schools operation there. ‘We are firm to our belief that the schools are peace zone so we allow schools to operate their classes smoothly’, said Nijamuddin Samani, central member the party.

The general strike has also adversely affected local industries in Birgunj and adjoining area.

The Council said that the programs of protests would be changed.

The normal life was crippled in the Limbuwan state of the eastern region for the fourth consecutive day today due to the strike called by Council.

The  Council called the strike demanding that the citizenship distribution, and voters list collection process be stopped until the agitating fringe parties’ demands regarding the Constituent Assembly elections were addressed.

Earlier, a meeting of the leaders of the student unions had decided to stage protests nationwide against Karki’s recommendation.

Treasurer of All Nepal National Independent Student Union-Revolutionary Khageshwor KC said that the student unions are scheduled to submit a memorandum to the President this afternoon.

Similarly, the students would organize a torch rally on Wednesday.

KC said they have organized a general shut down in the valley on Thursday.
