Among the total of 13 board members of the rural municipality, eight members voted in favour of changing the name, rural municipality’s Chair, Major Kumar Rai said.

Vice Chairperson, Ramila Rai, added that they are in the process of acquiring permission from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to alter the name.

The local representatives say that the decision was taken as many places in Nepal go by the name of Sunkoshi and that they decided to change it into Lingchingbung – a name of a flower in Kirati language – for a separate identity. RSS
