KATHMANDU: Spokesperson for UCPN (Maoist) Agni Prasad Sapkota has expressed confidence that the political parties opposing the second Constituent Assembly election would finally join the electoral process.

During a regular press meet at the party central office Koteshwor on Saturday, Sapkota said, “People are eager to make the new CA election successful”. Stating that the ongoing nationwide election campaign launched by his party has been effective, he asserted that the party has received positive feedbacks about the election from the people.

He said none has rights to go against the people’s aspirations, undermining the national necessities.

“The High Level Political Committee is ready to adopt maximum flexibility to convince the disgruntled parties to join the election”, he said.

Deadline for registering names in the voters’ list could be extended and quota for proportional representation in the new CA could be increased on the basis of political consensus, said Sapkota whose party is currently heading the HLPC.

BHAKTAPUR: CPN (UML) leader KP Sharma Oli has said that CA election opposing forces are active in the country.

He was referring to the CPN-Maoist, Ashok Rai-led Federal Socialist Party and other agitating parties as the elements to foil the election.

At a program in Bhaktapur today said the agitating parties however would be wooed to ensure their participation in the CA election.

Oli also expressed his confidence that the agitating parties would come to the election process through talks and dialogue and election would be held on consensus.

Saying that anarchy was flourishing in the country, Oli added democratic exercises should be conducted in a disciplined fashion.

The UML leader, who remained at the helm of power many times, admitted the poor people were remaining back as the state resources and employment opportunities were distributed only to the party cadres.

BIRATNAGAR: Senior CPN-UML leader KP Sharma Oli has said that none could obstruct the Constituent Assembly election s slated for November 19.

Talking to media persons in Biratnagar on Saturday, leader Oli said Nepal Army would be mobilised in the election to hold it in a peaceful atmosphere.

Election would not be thwarted merely because of some few parties objecting to it, he said, adding only election could institutionalise the democracy.

If we fail to hold election on the slated date, the country would face bigger crisis, he said and urged all parties not to make any decision that hinders electoral process.

Responding to a query, leader Oli said that the High Level Political Committee formed to hold the election could not be dissolved till the election was held. There would be no compromise on election government, he stressed.

On a different note, he said his party had no dispute about its general convention.

NEPALGUNJ: Senior Leader of the CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli has ruled out the possibility of the formation of a national consensus government under the leadership of an independent candidate.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Chautari Nepal, Banke chapter here today, leader Oli said a national consensus government cannot be formed under the leadership of an independent person as claimed by the UCPN (Maoist).

It would be beneficial for all the political parties if a consensus government is constituted under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, he said.

He said an alternative to the Congress President for the prime ministerial candidate could be sought from his party itself if a situation of forging package agreement among the political parties came.

Responding to a query of journalists, leader Oli said it were not the opposition parties but the UCPN (Maoist) which did not want fresh Constituent Assembly elections. New election under the leadership of the incumbent government is not possible under any circumstances, he said.

The UML leader said participating in the election headed by the incumbent government, which has already lost the moral and constitutional grounds, was like surrendering before him.
