KATHMANDU, May 17: With the unification of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center), historical announcement of Nepal Communist Party was made this evening amidst a program in the capital city.

At a special news conference, Chairmen duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ announced the formation of the new political party.

A total of 441 central committee members are named in the CPN.

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and leader of the party recited the party’s manifesto at the program that was attended by a large number of party leaders and cadres.

On the occasion, leader Nepal said that the party would move ahead considering the government unveiled slogan ‘Happy Nepali, Prosperous Nepal’.

He also informed that party’s high command, standing committee and central committee were also formed.

The two parties had signed a six-point deal prior to the national elections some seven months ago, contesting the polls through the single election manifesto of the left alliance.

The newly-formed party shall follow the peaceful competition, respect human rights and rule of law, independent foreign policy, respect UN Charters and maintain harmonious relations with all countries in the world.

The party would practice ‘people’s centralism and collective leadership system’ and Marxism and Leninism would be the party’s guiding principle.

Also speaking at the programme, leader of CPN Janardan Sharma committed to fulfilling the people’s expectations by ensuring good governance after the formation of the CPN. RSS

KATHMANDU, May 17: CPN-UML Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has informed the party unification process in the central committee meeting held at his official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday.

He said that the unification between UML and CPN (Maoist Center) was to meet the historical need and aspirations of the people.

Chair Oli shared that the historical decision was taken to lead the nation ahead and end the splitting culture of communist parties in Nepal.

The guiding principle of the party will be the Marxism and Leninism and the new party will adopt the program of people’s democracy targeted to socialism.

NINE-MEMBER SECRETARIAT

There will be nine member secretariat of the new party, said UML secretary Yogesh Bhattarai. The members are KP Sharma Oli, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, ‘Prachanda’, Jhalnath Khanal, Madhav Nepal, Bamdev Gautam, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Ishwar Pokharel, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Bishnu Poudel.

Bhattarai also shared that the Poudel will be assigned the responsibly of general secretary while Shrestha as the spokesperson of the new party.

Meanwhile, Maoist center’s secretariat meeting was recently held and issues related to party merger was discussed.

The meeting also discussed the name for standing committee and central committee to be represented in the new party after unification.

Similarly, a joint meeting of the both party’s central committee is underway in Baluwatar.

And the both chairs will address the meeting and inform the developed issues.

KATHMANDU, May 17: The merging CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have dissolved their respective parties on Thursday, before announcing their unification after eight months of merger initiation.

The two ruling parties held separate central committee meeting, following the joint committee meeting, and dissolved their respective parties.

A party unification coordination committee meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence approved the unification earlier in the afternoon. The merger committee meeting also approved the interim statute and organizational report of the new party, according to UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel.

The coordination committee has also agreed to register a new party ‘Nepal Communist Party’ at the Office of Election Commission, Jamal today itself following the unified central committee meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, two chairs of UML and Maoist Center had forged consensus in principle to finalize the bid. The two parties are organizing a press conference in the evening to announce their unification.

The new party will be named as Communist Party of Nepal. Similarly, the guiding principle of the party will be of Marxist and Leninist doctrine. The party will led by co-chair system.

There will be 43 standing committee members (25 from UML and 18 from MC), 441 central committee members (241 from UML and 200 from MC). The electoral symbol of the party will be the sun.

The meeting held between the chairs of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) on Wednesday had forged consensus in principle to finalize the bid.

Both party chairs had informed their party meeting about the progress and consensus regarding the unification. The merger committee meeting today, approving the unification bid has also approved the interim statute and organizational report of the new party, said UML general secretary Ishwar Pokharel.

The new party will be named as Communist Party of Nepal. Similarly, the guiding principle of the party will be of Marxist and Leninist doctrine. The party will led by co-chair system.

There will be 43 standing committee members (25 from UML and 18 from MC), 441 central committee members (241 from UML and 200 from MC). The electoral symbol of the party will be the sun.

Central Committee meeting of the CPN-UML is currently taking place at official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar soon after the conclusion of the Party Unification Coordination Committee meeting.

According to Secretary at CPN-UML Central Office, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, a program has been scheduled to inform the central committee about party unification.

A central committee meeting of the Maoist Center is also going to take place today. Party Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal said that Chairman Dahal would briefed the meeting about party unification.

A program has been scheduled where UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal would reach at the Election Commission and register unified party as per the agreement reached at the Party Unification coordination Committee meeting.

Soon after the registration of unified party, the program to announce party unification has been scheduled at City Hall at 4:00 pm, said Shrestha. Similarly, a meeting of joint central committee of the unified party would be held this evening after announcement of party unification.

The meeting has focused its attention on issue related to registration of new party at the Election Commission by determining joint statute, political document and central committee and party unification announcement through news conference.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ jointly planted a sapling of Ginkgo Biloba, a plant that survived the atomic bombing in Hiroshima and Nagashaki during the Second World War, on the premises of Baluwatar before the meeting.

They also planted saplings of mango, Prosopiscineraria, guava, avocado and memphis wishing the party unification would long last.

KATHMANDU, May 17: Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has said that unification between CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) is taking place today.

At a program organized by CPN-UML on the occasion of 25th Memorial Day of late communist leaders Madan Bhandari and Jibraj Ashrit at Madannagar, Balkhu, on Thursday, Prime Minister and UML Chairman, Oli said the both parties are going to be united and the new united party will never split.

He said, “The new communist party after the unification will take the country to a new height. The unification between the two parties will affect in every angle of Nepal’s political, social, present and future, economy and cultural height.”

Appraising the contribution of Madan Bhandari and Jibraj Ashrit, the Prime Minister said that they are going for party unification on the auspicious occasion of Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day. He further said that they will fulfill the dream ‘Sukhi Nepali Swabhimani Nepal’ as envisioned by late Bhandari through party unification.

Prime Minister Oli said that the new united party would be registered at the Election Commission today itself after the joint central committee meeting of both parties makes decision regarding party unification once the Party Unification Coordination Committee approves the unification.

Oli also said that they will not take the Nepali Congress as their competitor and move ahead taking it together for nation building.”

On the occasion, CPN (Maoist Center) chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that they are announcing the party unification between CPN-UML and Maoist Center on the occasion of Madan-Ashrit Memorial day.

Prachanda added that it was a historical day therefore they selected to this occasion to announce the party unification. “It is me who suggested that the party unification should take place on the occasion of Madan-Asrit Smriti Diwas,” he added.

He further said that they were attributing the late leaders Bhandari and Ashrit after unifying the major communist parties in the country.

On the occasion, UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Defense Minister Ishwar Pokharel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa among other leaders offered the floral tribute on the photographs of late leaders.

Then party general secretary Bhandari and chief of organization department Ashrit were killed in a jeep accident together this very day 25 years ago.

KATHMANDU, May 17:After eight months of initial agreement on merger between CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center), the two ruling left parties are announcing unification Thursday afternoon, ending the uncertainty over the merger.

Preparations are almost over, and the scene has been all set. A meeting of the party unification coordination committee, held today morning at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, has scheduled 4 pm for the merger announcement.

“The unification will be announced at 4 pm in the afternoon at Rastriya Shaba Griha,” Foreign Affairs Minister and UML leader Pradeep Gyawali told Reporters Club.

The decision taken by the meeting will be approved by the UML’s central committee. Following this, the new Nepal Communist Party will be registered with the Election Commission today itself, which will be made public through a press conference.

“There is no reason to prolong the party unification and that the new party will be registered today itself,” said Prime Minister and UML Chair K P Sharma Oli at an event organized to mark the 25th Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day.

A meeting between chairs of both the parties—K P Sharma Oli (UML) and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ (Maoist Center)—on Wednesday morning agreed to seal the unification deal, and announce the merger on Thursday coinciding with the 25th death anniversary of UML leaders Madan Kumar Bhandari and Jibaraj Ashrit, who were killed when a jeep carrying both of them plunged into Trishuli river 25 years ago.

According to the agreement, the new unity party will be named ‘Nepal Communist Party’, the new party will be guided ideologically by the philosophy of Marxist–Leninist and on political line, People’s Democracy will be adopted and leadership of the new party will be shared alternatively.

The new party will have 441-member central committee (241 members from the UML and 200 from the Maoist Center).

Likewise, it will have a 43-member standing committee with 25 representatives from the UML and 18 from the Maoist Center. The party will have ‘Sun’ as its electoral symbol, the one the UML has been using for long.

KATHMANDU, May 16: CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) are likely to announce their unification on Thursday, according to sources.

The two chairs of the parties, K P Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, have reached a decision to announce their merger during a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar on Wednesday, on the occasion of Madan Bhandari Memorial Day, according to high placed sources.

The UML has invited the top leaders of Maoist Center to attend a function being organized on the occasion. The two left parties, if everything goes as planned, will organize a press conference after the program and will likely announce merger, said a high placed Maoist Center source.

Earlier, UML vice-general secretary Bishnu Poudel, who was present during the meeting, had said that the two parties have agreed to announce the date for unification, adding that, the merger would likely be announced before May 21.

The unified Communist party of Nepal, if possible, will also apply for registration at the Election Commission tomorrow.

NAGARKOT, May 9: Spokeswoman for the CPN (Maoist Center), Pampha Bhusal, said the announcement of unification between the party and CPN-UML has been delayed due to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Nepal. The Indian Prime Minister is arriving here on a two-day State visit on May 11.

“The unification has been delayed due to a busy schedule of Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal on the eve of the Indian Prime Minister’s visit,” said Bhusal at a face-to-face interaction program organized by the Rafat Sanchar Club on Wednesday.

“Mutual homework on the unification issues is underway. The party will not dissolve in the CPN-UML during the merger process as reported in public. The both parties will unite in a respectful way. The party unification coordination committee is doing a needful for the same,” she added.

Bhusal also said time has not come yet to review over the government activities.

“The government is doing its works as per the agenda of elections,” she said.

She further added that the government will announce budget for the new fiscal year on the scheduled date, claiming that the leftist government was trying to make its diplomatic side as favorable to the nation and time.
