SAGAR KARKI, KATHMANDU, Jan 30: A meeting of the CPN-UML standing committee, held at the party headquarters in Dhumbarai on Tuesday has failed to select chief ministers and ministers as the meeting concluded without any concrete decision.

But the party has decided to elect the candidates through voting by provincial parliamentary members if consensus among the leaders cannot be established.

The meeting has decided to open voting as an option in case no consensus can be established, according to party standing committee member Shankhar Pokhrel.

The left alliance on Sunday agreed to allocate four chief ministers to UML and two to CPN (Maoist Center). As per the agreement, UML is leading province government is Province 1, 3, 4 and 5 while Maoist Center will have 6 and 7.

It may be noted that Pokhrel has already been elected as the parliamentary party leader of Province 5 unopposed; and he will likely to lead the government in the province. But, in other provinces, more than one leaders have put claim for the post, which has created problems for UML.

Pokhrel added that the party will select its chief ministers and ministers of provinces after National Assembly (NA) election.

Meanwhile, UML has also decided to organize an orientation to voters in view of the upcoming NA election, scheduled for February 7, according to Pokhrel.

The meeting also decided that the new government would not take responsibility of recent decisions of the care taker government. The meeting was chaired by party chairman KP Sharma Oli where senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and other leaders were present.

BHAKTAPUR, Dec 28: CPN-UML has asked the Election Commission (EC) to immediately announce the results of the proportional representation (PR) election system of the House of Representatives.

At the Standing Committee meeting of the party held at party chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Balkot on Thursday, the party has decided to draw attention of the EC to facilitate formation of a new government by announcing the PR results, party secretary and chief of publicity department Yogesh Bhattarai said.

The meeting concluded that delay in result announcement of PR was unfortunate and has drawn attention of the EC towards confusions on formation of new government, he added. Bhattarai said that a party delegation would talk to the EC to this end.

Similarly, discussions were held on formation of new government and finalizing the unification of UML with CPN (Maoist Center) through the meeting of party unification coordination committee as well as the constitution of the National Assembly. “Unification of UML and Maoist Center will take place soon. Party Chairman Oli informed the meeting about his positive talks with Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’,” Bhattarai shared.

The unification coordination committee shall meet either Friday or Saturday to sort out organizational and management of political leadership through consultation, he added.

Meanwhile, the UML has finalized the names of 75 candidates to represent the UML in the Province Assemblies under the PR system. The lists would be submitted to the EC on Friday.

Senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, vice-chairmen Bamdev Gautam and Bhim Rawal, General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, Secretary Pradip Kumar Gyawali and other standing committee members were present at the meeting that lasted for around five hours. RSS

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: The standing committee meeting of the CPN-UML held at vice chair Bamdev Gautam’s Bhaisepati residence Friday discussed on formation of a new government and party unification process with CPN (Maoist Center).

The five-hour long meeting held after the completion of second round of federal and provincial parliamentary elections, reviewed latest political developments. The meeting concluded that the formation of national assembly and new government were different issues.

The meeting urged the election commission and Prime Minister to create environment conducive to form a new government immediately by respecting the public mandate.

The press release issued by party secretary Pradeep Gyawali after the meeting has stated that the national assembly should be formed following the majority electoral system as per the constitutional provision and consensus forged among the political parties in the past.

Though the meeting of the party unification coordination committee was scheduled for today, it could not be held as the UML meeting continued for long. It is stated that, however, both party leaders were in informal talks over the issue.

Likewise, the meeting has thanked voters, election commission and government of Nepal for the completion of elections. The meeting also extended best wishes to newly elected representative in the both elections.

The meeting extended sorrow over the demise of security persons and wished for speedy recovery to the injured in course of elections. The meeting was chaired by UML chair KP Sharma Oli.
