KATHMANDU, April 28: President of People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping has assured support and cooperation to Nepal in the fight against the global pandemic.

In a telephone conversation with President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday evening, the two Presidents shared views on the ongoing global fight against the pandemic of COVID-19 and its impacts felt across the world and exchanged views on the measures taken by their respective governments in the combat against coronavirus, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal in a press release.

President Bhandari appreciated the strong initiatives pursued by the Government of China in containing and controlling the COVID-19 in China and in extending support to the countries around the world in their fight against the pandemic. In return, the President of China appreciated swift and resolute actions taken by the Government of Nepal in containing spread of the virus and assured China’s cooperation in this regard, the release further reads.

Bhandari also expressed gratitude toward China for the assistance of medical logistics provided to Nepal.

According to the release, Xi also expressed his happiness over the return of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to normal work schedule after his kidney transplant surgery and conveyed his best wishes to the prime minister for his good health and happiness.

President Xi appreciated the telephone call by President Bhandari and thanked for the solidarity and support extended to the government and people of China during the coronavirus epidemic and also on the occasion of the Observance of National Day of Mourning in memory of those who lost their lives while fighting the novel coronavirus.

The two Presidents also expressed satisfaction on the excellent state of bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen these relations in the coming days through the implementation of understandings and agreements reached during the high-level visits, including the projects related to expanding connectivity between the two countries within the framework of Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network. Both the Presidents agreed to the expeditious execution of these projects immediately after the situation becomes normal.

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Nepal and China have signed and exchanged a 20-point bilateral cooperation instruments on various sectors including Sagarmatha region protection, feasibility Study of China-Nepal Cross-Border Railway Project, establishment of sister-city relationship between Kathmandu and Nanjing and Butwal and X’ian, disaster risk reduction and emergency response, tunnel construction and water supply improvement project in Kathmandu.

The signing and exchange ceremony was witnessed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli following the delegation-level talks held in Kathmandu on Sunday.

Xi, who returned to China on Sunday afternoon after wrapping up a two-day official state visit to Nepal, has also pledged financial assistance of around Rs 56 billion between 2020 and 2022.

He has also assured enhanced connectivity between the two countries while pledging to assist Nepal to transform from lank-locked country to land-linked country.

During his stay, Xi held bilateral talks with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Nepal Communist Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and secretariat members, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and National Assembly Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.

The 20-point bilateral cooperation deal reached between China and Nepal are as follows:

  1. Agreement between the Governments of Nepal and the People’s Republic of China on the Boundary Management System
  2. MoU between the Governments of Nepal and the People’s Republic of China on the Exchanges and Cooperation on Governance Capacity Building
  3. Treaty between Nepal and the People’s Republic of China on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters
  4. MoU on Mount Sagarmatha/Zhumulangma Protection Cooperation between Nepal and China
  5. MoU on Promoting Key Projects of Investment and Cooperation on Productive Capacity between the National Planning Commission of Nepal and the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China.
  6. Exchange of Note for Setting up a Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu
  7. MoU between the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of Nepal and the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China on Feasibility Study of China-Nepal Cross-Border Railway Project.
  8. Agreement between Kathmandu Metropolitan City of Nepal and Nanjing City of the People’s Republic of China on the Establishment of Sister-City Relationship.
  9. Agreement between Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City of Nepal and Xi’an City of the People’s Republic of China on the Establishment of Sister-City Relationship.
  10. MoU on Cooperation on Traditional Medicine between the Ministry of Health and Population of the Government of Nepal and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China.

  12. MoU on Cooperation between the Supreme People’s Procurator of the People’s Republic of China and Office of the Attorney General of Nepal
  13. Agreement between Tribhuvan University of Nepal and Confucius Institute Headquarters of China on the Establishment of Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University.
  14. Protocol of Phytosanitary Requirements for the Export of Citrus Fruits from Nepal to China between the Department of Agriculture of the Government of Nepal and General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: President of People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping has returned to China after wrapping up a two-day official state visit of Nepal.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, National Assembly Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, cabinet ministers among others had seen off Xi at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

A contingent of Nepal Army personnel had given a guard of honor to visiting President Xi before he took off.

During his stay, Xi held bilateral meetings with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Nepal Communist Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and secretariat members, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, National Assembly Chair Ganesh Prasad Timalsina.

Earlier on Sunday, Xi held delegation-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. Following the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the exchange of 18 MoUs and two letters of exchange related to the partnership with government bodies including the Ministries of Home, Foreign Affairs, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Agriculture and Livestock Development, Industry, Commerce and Supply and the Kathmandu metropolis.

The MoUs were exchanged at the presence of President Xi and Prime Minister Oli.

In response Xi said China is ready to extend every possible support to Nepal in the realization of its goal of Prosperous Nepal Happy Nepali.

Likewise, NC President Deuba assured Xi of Nepal’s commitment toward one China policy and support to BRI.

Deuba further said Xi’s visit would take the bilateral relation between Nepal and China to a new height and expressed confidence that both countries would benefit from trade, energy, infrastructure, and other sectors.

Delivering a statement during a state banquet organized in honor of the visiting President of People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, Bhandari said, “The relation between Nepal and China is deep as ocean and high as the Mount Everest.”

“Our relation is based on mutual understanding, respect, and well-being is close. Nepal-China bilateral relation is strong and free of any problems,” she added.

“There are extreme possibilities to take our relation which is based on Panchasheel to a new height,” she furthered.

Xi arrived in Nepal on Saturday afternoon on a two-day official state visit. He is scheduled to hold a delegation-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli tomorrow. The two leaders will also witness signing of a dozen agreements an MoUs following the meeting.

Xi is also scheduled to hold meeting with Nepal Communist Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal before leaving for China in the afternoon.

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Chinese President Xi Jinping has paid courtesy call on his counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari at the Office of President in Sitalniwas on Saturday.

Xi and Bhandari held talks on various bilateral issues, stated Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal (MoFA).

“In an atmosphere of utmost cordiality and friendship, President Rt. Hon. Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari and President of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping hold bilateral talks at the Office of the President,” tweeted MoFA.

The visiting President, who arrived in Nepal in the afternoon for a two-day official state visit, will attend a dinner hosted by Prez Bhandari at the Hotel Soaltee later in the evening.

Xi will also meet Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today.

On Sunday, Xi will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Oli. Following the meeting, both leaders will witness the signing of about a dozens of bilateral agreements and Memorandum of Understanding.

Xi is also scheduled to hold meeting with Nepal Communist Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal tomorrow.

Xi will return to Beijing on Sunday afternoon.

Xi arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport at 4:45 pm from Chhenai after wrapping up a two-day informal summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Xi was received by his counterpart President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the VVIP lounge.

Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and ministers are also at the airport to welcome the visiting President.

Xi and Bhandari will inspect a guard of honor at the TIA shortly before heading to Hotel Soaltee.

Xi will hold a bilateral meeting with his President Bhandari at Sitalniwas at 6:30 pm in the evening. He will then attend a banquet at Hotel Soaltee at 7:30 pm.

On Sunday Xi will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Oli. Following the meeting, both leaders will witness the signing of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding.

Xi is also scheduled to meet Nepal Communist Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

He will leave for Beijing on 1:00 pm tomorrow.
