Tourism, main basis of development: Minister Pokharel



Pokhara, Dec 28: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ananda Prasad Pokharel, has said that tourism was the main basis for the tourism development.

Inaugurating the 17th Pokhara Street Festival at Pokhara organised by the Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal, Pokhara, today, Minister Pokharel said that tourism potentiality should be utilized for the economic development as Nepal itself has immense tourism possibility.

Minister Pokharel said that development of tourism of Pokhara should be forwarded linking Lumbini, Muktinath, Dhorpatan, with each other.

Stating that foundation stone of the international airport would be laid within next two months, he said that the international airport would take development of Pokhara to new height.

The Tourism Minister further said that the government was in a plan to build a national cultural museum, saying the tourism should be linked with regional and cultural aspects.

Lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari who is also the chairman at the Development committee under the Legislature-Parliament has said that Pokhara itself has an immense tourism importance as it could link up Sunauli to Korala border point to China.

He added that the touristic development could help economic development of the nation.
Similarly, REBAN chair Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai said that the festival could be helpful to return Pokhara in previous stage as quake has badly affected the tourism sector.

Festival coordinator Dorje Lama urged to upgrade the Pokhara Airport to international standard. The festival was launched with the slogan of ‘eat, dance and enjoy in the street’ and would be completed on January 1. RSS
