Prime Minister Oli buys Trishuli III ‘B’ share, launches people’s hydro program

KATHMANDU, March 21: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli bought 10,000 points share of the Trishuli III ‘B’ hydropower project as part of the launch of ‘people’s hydroelectricity program’.

PM Oli applied for the share at a program organized by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation at his residence, Baluwatar, this morning.

Similarly, his spouse Radhika Shakya and Energy Minister Barshaman Pun applied for 10,000 points of share each, while former Speaker Onsari Gharti applied for 2,000 points.

In the initial phase, for the share under this project, only 10 percent amount suffices. One can buy the share till March 25.

The program named ‘Nepalko Pani, Janatako Lagani: Harek Nepali Bidyutko Sheyardhani (Nepal’s Water, People’s Investment: Every Nepali’s Share on Electricity) was officially launched on February 13 this year.

The construction of the 37 megawatt hydel project, which is located in Kispang Rural Municipality of Nuwakot, formally started last week.

Nepal Electricity Authority and Nepal Telecom have the major stake in the project with both owning 30 percent share each. Five percent is owned by the rural municipalities and municipalities of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. Five percent share has been allotted to local financial institutions and 10 percent to the locals of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. Five percent has been allocated to NEA and NT employees while 15 percent have been allocated to general public.

The project being constructed at the cost of Rs 8.22 billion is expected to complete within three years.
