UCPN (Maoist) general convention passes Prachanda’s document
HETAUDA: The ongoing seventh general convention of the UCPN (Maoist) approved the political document of party’s chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. The concerns and grievances of the cadres would be included in the document later on.
The general convention delegates gave an unanimous nod the Prachanda’s document with a big hand in the hall after Prachanda concluded his address.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ , who was criticized by the cadres and delegates for his controversial proposal, was addressing the cadres today–the fifth day closed-door session of the seventh General Convention.
Prachanda was slammed by the cadres and leaders for his controversial document on nationality and lack of clear points for party leaders and cadres.
In his address to the delegates, Prachanda said that the party should embrace a clear thought, tactical line and a strong organization to end the ongoing political transition.
“Political revolution has been ended by the People’s War. Now, we have to work for economic revolution by ending the ongoing political transition as far as possible,” the former rebel leader said.
Prachanda was of the view that the party would be taken based on collective leadership. However, analysts have argued that most of the power in the UCPN (Maoist) is centralized in the party ‘headquarters’.
On Wednesday, UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai had addressed the delegates and tried his best to assure the party’s rank and file that his government was thwarting the counter-revolution bid of the current opposition parties.
Dahal is answering the queries raised by the general convention delegates, according to UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson Agni Sapkota. Party Chairman Dahal is expected to deliver his views on overall issues in the closed session.
