Sanders assumes office as Nepal’s UNHCR Chief
KATHMANDU: Steven Craig Sander joined as Representative of the the Nepal chapter of UNHCR in Kathmandu. On Wednesday Sander presented his Letter of Credentials to Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire.
Prior to this Sanders has served his earlier tenure in Bangladesh, Dhaka. He has been associated with the agency since 1992 and has fulfilled similar responsibilities in Sudan, Indonesia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Malawi and at UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
“I am delighted to be in Nepal, a country rich in culture and natural beauty, and look forward to maintaining an effective working relationship with the Government of Nepal, members of the diplomatic community, UN Agencies, non-governmental organisations and all other major stakeholders and interlocutors in the refugee programme in Nepal,” Sander, an US citizen said in a press release issued by his office.
His office has been working for Bhutanese and Tibetan refugees in Nepal.
