Temporary teachers announce stern agitation

KATHMANDU: Temporary teachers working in various community schools across the nation have announced fresh rounds of protest programs to bring the government to its knee before their demands.

The Temporary Teachers’ Struggle Committee (TTSC), an organization advocating the rights of the temporary teachers on Monday, announced a 6 point charter of demands and protest programs.

Ram Chandra Adhikari, president of TTSC, informed that they are preparing to organize a 3 day sit in sit-in outside Singha Durbar for three days starting September 4.

We had to stage a protest after the Teachers’ Service Commission announced vacancies without bothering to take temporary teachers into confidence,” Adhikari said justifying their protests.

Among others, the organization has sought internal competition between temporary and contract teachers for appointment in permanent positions.

Other demands include formation of a constitutional Teachers’ Service Commission, uniform allowances to all kinds of teachers and an immediate halt to teachers’ appointment on contract.
