International concern grows amid changing political dynamic



Kathmandu: There is growing concerns of the international community in Nepal regarding the recent political development.

Representatives of international community in Nepal, who have voiced their concern over the UCPN (Maoist) announcement to stay out of the CA in light of the party’s humiliating defeat in the CA polls, have become more active, reaching out to various parties.

In last three days, envoys of various countries in Kathmandu have intensified the meeting with the top leaders of Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), parties that have are almost sure to emerge as the two largest political forces. During the meeting, the envoys have urged the leaders of these two parties to move ahead by forging consensus with the UCPN (Maoist) along with other parties.  Likewise, the representatives of diplomatic community have also met UCPN (Maoist) leaders to urge them to accept the people’s verdict and shun the decision of boycotting the CA.

Meanwhile, US ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bodde and representatives of European Union met CPN (UML) chairman Jhalanath Khanal at UML headquarter Balkhu today to advise him to move ahead forging consensus.

Congratulating Khanal for successful conduct of polls and subsequent victory, they urged Khanal to play a role for forging consensus with the UCPN (Maoist) and other poll-boycotting parties.

The growing engagement of the international community’s has come at the wake of NC and UML initiation to form the government. Earlier on yesterday, UC Envoy and representatives of European Union had held meetings with NC president Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuwa, vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel including the UCPN (Maoist) leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai.
