LALITPUR: The Madhes-based parties faced unexpected defeat in the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) elections due to the lack of electoral alliance, said leaders of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic.

Speaking at Sunday’s session of the party’s ongoing central committee meeting in Lalitpur, the participants pointed out the lack of alliance among the Madhes-centric parties as a reason behind the unexpected results they faced in the CA election.

The Madhesi parties failed in the selection of election candidates, publicity strategy and could not make an alliance with the parties carrying similar poll agendas, they said.

The meeting is expected to formulate party agenda for the formation of consensus government and pick the name of candidates representing the party in the new CA under the PR system.

The party has won four first-past-the post (FPTP) seats and 10 PR seats in the CA election.

Of 102 central members, 83 delivered their views in today’s meeting. Party Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar is chairing the meeting.
