Shah rewarded national team skipper Thapa
KATHMANDU: Mega Bank CEO Anil Shah today rewarded the national team skipper Sagar Thapa with motivational boost ahead of Nepal’s World Cup qualifier against India.
Shah handed over Rs 100,000 to Thapa for his outstanding freekick goal against Bangladesh during the 2011 SAFF Championship held in New Delhi. The goal had sealed Nepal’s victory over Bangladesh, their first in 18 years, and a place in the semi-finals for the first time in 12 years.
Shah said the goal was one of the best. “You have to play good against India and win the match,” he said. Nepal will play their first leg match against India on March 12 at Guwahati, while the return leg is slated for March 17 at the Dasharath Stadium.
Nepal head coach Jack Stefanowski said the reward before the crucial match would boost the morale of the players. “Our dream is to win the match against India and we will win against them,” he said. Acting president of All Nepal Football Association Lalit Krishna Shrestha lauded Shah for his efforts. “Shah always motivates the players with his inspirational speeches and the reward will encourage other players,” said Shrestha.
Skipper Thapa said the reward would encourage his teammates to give their best. “The goal I scored against Bangladesh is unforgettable,” he said. “I will give all my energy to do the best against India next week.” National team players currently under close camp, were present during the programme.
