KATHMANDU, Apr 3: A man who was convicted in a 14-year-old rape and murder case has been nabbed from Thapagaun, New Baneshwor of Capital on Friday.

Manoj Khadka (35) from Chandragadhi-3 of Jhapa was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.

The Supreme Court on September 14, 2009 had sentenced Khadka, along with two others, with life imprisonment on September 14, 2009.

The trio including Khadka were convicted in murdering one Sandhya Rajbanshi of Chandragadhi-3, Jhapa on October 16, 2000.

Khadka, along with Sitaram Basnet and another person had gang-raped Rajbanshi before murdering her in the Charaali jungle of Jhapa, police said.

The Ilam Appellate Court on April 10, 2002 had acquitted them of the crime. But, police had moved the apex court seeking review on the decision.

The trio had strangled the girl to death, but had tied the body with a rope to a tree, police said.

Another convict, Basnet, was arrested from Koteshwor of Kathmandu on November 29, 2014. He is doing his time at the Central Jail, Jagannathdewal.
