UCPN (Maoist) Chair observes quake-hit Kirtipur



Kathmandu, May 1: The UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal observed the quake-hit Kirtipur Municipality and various places here and pledged rescue and relief materials to the victims.

Chairman Dahal was accompanied by the party’s senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Standing Committee member Janardan Sharma and few other leaders and cadres of the UCPN (Maoist).

Locals of Kirtipur Municipality Ward Nos 14 and 15 grieved with the leader Dahal and his visiting team that the victims had not received any adequate tarpaulin sheets, food and drinking water yet.

The locals complained with the Chairman that they were overlooked by the government despite the place is in the outskirt of Kathmandu.

They also appealed to leader Dahal to voice for them with the incumbent government so that they would be availed relief materials before their situation starts going from bad to worse,

In reciprocation, the UCPN (Maoist) Chairman, expressing his solidarity towards the plight of locals, said, “Do not fret, we are ready to support you.”

“All issues will be resolved. We are talking to government for the same,” Dahal said, pacifying the grieving locals.

Dilip Maharjan, a leader of UCPN (Maoist), who is from Kirtpur also shared Chairman Dahal that almost of the old houses were destroyed by the quake yet the victims were deprived of relief materials.

Some 18 people from Panga village in Kirtipur have been reported dead and some hundred injured, Maharjan added.

The UCPN (Maoist) has already deposited Rs 3 million to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Rescue Fund to join the social cause during this calamity.

The party had called a meeting on Thursday to mobilize its top leaders in the relief, rescue and resettlement of the victims in the most-affected districts. RSS
