Team studies condition of quake survivors
Kathmandu, Jan 1: A study team formed by Samata Foundation and the Association for Dalit Women Advancement of Nepal carried out a study on the situation of April 25 earthquake survivors in the quake-affected districts.
The districts studied include Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Gorkha and Tanahun.
During the study, the team inquired about the condition of quake victims with the victims, civil society, representatives of NGOs and other concerned authorities, team coordinator and former lawmaker Binod Pahari said.The team led by Pahari included Dr Buddhi Nepali as co-coordinator, while lawmaker Kamala Bishwokarma, Dalit right activists Gaura Nepali and Gopal Badi, former member-secretary at National Dalit Commission Bhuban Sunar and researcher Tejman Tamang are its members.Another team member and lawmaker Bishwokarma said that during the review, quake victims especially Dalits and the oppressed community have started taking ill due to cold as they are living in tents that cannot protect them properly from cold with government reliefs nowhere in sight even eight months after the disaster.“Quake survivors from Dalit and oppressed communities lack food and warm clothes, making them susceptible more to cold,” Pahari said.
