Kathmandu, Jan 6: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Development, Kamal Thapa, has said that the government has the target of constructing motorable roads to all the Village Development Committees (VDCs) in the country within the next two years.

“Five hundred VDCs in the country still lack road connectivity and the government is geared ahead with the target of connecting these VDCs to the road network within two years, DPM Thapa said while speaking in a face-to-face programme here today. He said the people’s participation-based alternative energy programme has been introduced so that it will help alleviate the energy crisis the country is facing and informed that installation of the solar energy system would be carried out at every house with the participation of the government, the local bodies and the people.

“Planting of saplings at every house in the urban areas would be made mandatory and saplings will also be planted on both sides of the roads in line with the government’s concept of making all the municipalities clean, green and pollution-free,” the Minister for local Development said.

He also stated that construction of open spaces and parks in the municipality would be undertaken on a campaign basis.
