NC convention publicity committee consults Press Union
Kathmandu, Jan 14: The 13th general convention publicity committee of the Nepali Congress has consulted the party’s sister wing Nepal Press Union.
Coordinator of the committee Dr Minendra Rijal informed the Union officials and senior journalists that an information centre was being set up to ease the flow of information regarding the party and the upcoming general convention.
On the occasion, the Union officials and senior journalists suggested the party to provide adequate information about the party and its stand on press freedom, take negative criticism positively and not to make efforts to control media.
The committee and the Union have agreed to set up the office of Nepal Press Union as the contact office of the publicity committee.
Meanwhile, Nepal Press Union has urged both the government and the agitating sides to ensure the atmosphere for free flow of information, respect press freedom.
The reporters must be provided free atmosphere for independent reporting, the Union said, showing concern over the increasing intimidation on media persons in Tarai/Madhes agitation.
The central committee meeting of the Union held recently in the capital city concluded that both security persons and agitating parties were hostile to media, which must end soon, said General Secretary Ajay Babu Shivakoti.
Similarly, it has decided to request the government to extend the deadline for journalists’ accident insurance.
