Korean teacher’s attraction to Nepali students and school

Kathmandu, Jan 21: It has been almost five years since Lee Se Jung, a Korean teacher by profession, reaches Natheswori Primary School every time he arrives Nepal.
He feels exalted while reaching the school – 17-km away from Kathmandu in the east – with some educational and recreational materials every year. This year too, he reached the school with 17 Korean teachers and educational workers. The Korean team painted the school building during two days. Besides, they also taught art and transferred recreational skills to the inquisitive kids in the school.
They did not leave the opportunity to study about Nepali children, scoeity and culture during their stay. There are 65 students in the school.
“We could not offer anymore but have learnt many things while being assimilated with small kids”, said team leader Jung. They said that it was easier for them to get along the psychology of the students for being the teacher.
The philanthropic Korean team constructed a storey of a truss to the school building and a toilet for students. In addition, the magnanimous Koreans also provided support for the maintenance of doors, windows and cupboards in the school and aided educational materials including computers.
“It costs Rs 3.3 million to carry out all these works. The Union of Korean Teachers and participants bear allt eh costs involved in providing support to the school and children”, said Serap Jangbu Sherpa, managing director of K2 Summit Treka dn Expedition Pvt Ltd, who has been coordinating the team for the past eight years.
Lawmaker of the constituency Rameswor Phuyal said such programmes are very effective to bring the friendly relations between Nepal and Korea to people’s level.
“With the support and knowledge transfer from Korean teachers, our kids have grasped the chance to know new things and schools have transformed its face”, said school principal Ram Bhakta Khadka with much appreciation.
